Just wanting to clear up some confusion. New to diesels. In the middle of a long resto project on my 79' Bronco. Have considered throwing a 7.3 in it but i know that entails a lot more work. I've always had a thing for the mid 90s 7.3s and have been considering getting one for a while. I just don't understand the difference between a 7.3 IDI and a 7.3 PSD other than price lol. Any help would be great, thanks.

IDI = mechanical. PSD = electronic.
IDI would be easier to swap.
Imo, PSD = more powah cheaper. More durable.

Switch was mid '94. PSD was only available from the factory with a gear rower, no slush box that year.

all depends on your budget.
my IDI can keep up with a stock powerstroke.

on a electronic 7.3 (PSD) you can get ass chilling gains
with nothing more than a simple programmer
but sensors, "electronic"valve cover gaskets, and computers,
come a heavy price and a scanner needed to diagnose

idi 7.3 is a nice swap into a 79 bronco. if you have the factory AC box on the outside of the firewall, a 7.3idi turbo might be a hard fit but a 7.3 powerstroke is a big mod job if you have that AC box.

I have a 78 Bronco driver from the south and am toying with the same idea.
I love the 7.3 powerstroke and its reliability and power but a 7.3 idi with some real dual exhaust would be pretty cool .

I want my bronco stock height and able to haul my big trailer , a body lift is not for me.

put soem pics in this thread of your project.
here's mine at Canada customs hauling it home behind my powerstroke
