I would say it depends on the actual truck set-up. But, I would expect mid to high teens if you drive it in the sweet spot. Most guys claim over 20 mpg, but I have only had a couple of tanks over 20 in the 6 years I've had mine. My truck is 4x4 and is a couple inches taller than stock, and I almost never drive it any real distance without a load.

I will also say that it depends on the year, not all 1st gens are the same. 89-early 91 are non-intercooled, 91.5 are intercooled and have the worst turbo hot side and timing specs stock, and 92-93 are basically the same as the 91.5 with better timing and a smaller turbo hot side.

My 90 CTD is significantly better on fuel that my 95 F350.
It also edges out my buddy's '90 IDI (NA, stick, 3.55).

I don't keep track of MPGs because all the driving on this rock is short trips and crappy roads - no highway to speak of.

My average is around 17-18, that's with a mix of highway (70-75) and city driving with a heavy right foot. After I swapped out to the better fuel pin and increased the fueling I got about .5 or maybe 1 MPG more. Best tank was 21 running mostly country back roads at 55-65.
