Exhaust Manifold

My daughter and SIL have a Ford Excursion, a '00 or a '01, with a cracked exhaust manifold. Its quite loud and sounds really crappy because you're hearing only half the cylinders, one bank. Its been this way for a while, and I guess they're getting tired of it.

They've gotten an estimate to R&R that manifold-- $1500 .

That seems a bit high to me. Its a midsize gas engine, with all the associated crap on it. but that just seems too high.

Any opinions?

What is a mid size gas engine? Is that a 5.0L 5.8L what?? check with a wrecker for a manifold and do it yourself I suppose....

Not knowing what engine etc makes the ability to give suggestions difficult.
