I lost my face to the jaws of a poodle
This truck initially showed up for a minor coolant leak, cracked up pipe and lockout hubs but further examination yielded unhealthy idle symptoms and that mysterious chirping noise.
The above pics show the cause of poor maintenance and abusive high rpm use of the valve train on a early model 04 6.0L.
238k on the odometer, and this truck when I first started working on it almost 2 years ago, has exhibited many signs of being ridden hard and put away wet on multiple ocassions.
The needle bearings in the roller tip were seizing up and had caused multiple flat spots on the face of the roller and camshaft lobe as well as pitting it severly.
Luckily this was caught in time before the lifter catastrophically came apart and sent needle bearing shrapnel thru the oil system from the oil pan.
Time for a new cam and lifters to get this one back to a healthy heart beat for this beast.
