96 F250 with about 125K miles all stock was running perfect and one day it was very hard to start. It would run some and seem fine, but next day was hard to start. I installed fuel filter and ran it 2 or 3 times and it seemed to run good, but I didn't drive on highway. I thought it was fixed. A few days later started it up and it runs erratic. Best way to describe is to see video of it running in which I'm not pumping the gas pedal, I'm pushing on the pedal slightly and it runs like crap. Could it be the IDM? I changed it out about 6 months ago with a use one. Any ideas on what could be wrong? I don't have a scan tool to run any error codes. Any help would be appreciated.

I would check the tanks to see if the pickups broke off. Very common.
Just for s&g's, try unplugging the ICP sensor.

We had wiring harness trouble under the battery (drivers side i think) seemed to run on 4, then perfect
Run it and shake down wires

my IDM issue was nothing like this.
if you don't have a scan tool, you need to atleast get a fuel pressure gauge in there so you can monitor it.
im a snap-on snob, it makes things a lot easier to read if you don't know binary.

never fly blind on these trucks, youll end up throwin parts at it left and right.

do you have fuel leaking by the starter?

"do you have fuel leaking by the starter?"

I was suspecting some leaking fuel under the fuel filter housing. I did replace the short hose which goes into the filter housing, but I'm not sure if it was leaking. I don't suspect it to be corroded out or anything, I had put a new filter housing assembly on it about 4 years ago. What is the best way to locate leak around the filter housing? Thanks

Crawl under there with a rag and clean it off. Then start the engine and look for a leak.

my guess would be an UVCH issue.

If you can get the truck to idle, disconnect one side of the valve cover harness.

If the truck stalls, you disconnected the good harness.

If the truck continues to idle poorly, you disconnected the bad harness.

Fairly common problem and a low cost easy repair.

Are the Fel-Pro gaskets any good? I replaced a valve cover gasket about 6 months ago. with a Fel-Pro one.

I checked all over the filter assembly, I don't see any fuel leaks. One thing I did notice is that it will start and seem to run normal when I first start it up. I'll let it idle for about 20 minutes and it is still running good, next if I turn the engine off and go to restart, it runs bad. Seems like something heat related. It wouldn't be the cranks position sensor would it?

Don't think so, but doesn't hurt to try it. You should have a spare anyways.
Really you need to get a scanner that with communicate with the truck.
