A new pump should be more efficient than a worn out pump. Things like advance, lower pressure, and all around worn out rotor and pistons can cause you to need to use more skinny pedal to get the same job done.

Get a new/rebuilt set of injectors too. Set them to ~2300psi for a hard working turbo engine. Mel/Agnem can do all of that.

I have a bone stock 6.2 suburban na 1982 other than the nv4500 swap. I also have a 91 f250 that I rebuilt a 6.9 I and crammed in with zf5 and it has a few mods such as I turned pump up 3 flats added ats stock 7.3 turbo and a rear end out of 2001 f250 superduty with 3.73 gear ratio. I will agree with the speed being a lot better with the 6.2 all day. I will also agree with the higher rpm advantage of 6.2. But mpg? Not so much. My f250 gets 20 mpg all day mixed driving and 17 pulling the yanmar to and from fort worth all day. Straight highway I get 22 to my folks place 207 miles away and back. Never had a overheating issue in either 6.2 or 6.9 and I use real guages. But the burb with the 6.2 does good to get 13 mpg highway downhill with the wind at my back. What's the deal with that? Starts wonderfully and easily every time even wen I leave it in the yard for a few weeks. Peppy as he'll but loves the go juice a lot more than the 6.9. Why I don't see some of the numbers u guys see with these 6.2s? Only 149,236 miles on her year to date. Great compression and have never seen her use any oil really.
