460 in a 97 f-150

I friend of mine has a 97 f-150 4x4 with a bad motor and is wanting to put in a 460. Will a c6 bolt up to the newer transfer case of will we have to swap that to?

splines coming out of the trans---have been same for years---youll need the 460 trans--as bellhousing patterns are diff--case length is same-- transfer adaptor will switch---the 97 has e4od--that inner case shaft wont switch---but if getting a whole assm---ok---have fun--esp if the 460 is carbed--------

Thanks for the info. He has the c6 to put in and I've warmed up the 460 so it should be an axle snapping good time.

460 would be easier to glarm parts for, but I'm thinkin' 351 Cleveland make that truck run like the proverbial sexually assaulted symian...

id sell you my 460/c6/np208 combo, my 460 only has 450hp though, and my c6 has diesel parts in it to make it stronger, the whole engine and trans has about 2000 miles on it, everything in it is new. i built it for nitrous but i havent ran it on the bottle yet

We put the 460 in his 87 mud truck and put the built 400M out of my 78 bronco in the 97. What an easy transplant, The c6 bolted up to the stock transfercase and the factory cross member like it was made to go there and the headers from the bronco actually fit better in the 97. A couple of hours later we had the wiring straightened out so all the factory gauges work as they should and the 78 alternator is charging perfectly. Now it's off to the quick lube to see the look on those kid's faces when they open the hood and to autozone to tell them the check engine light is on and if they can scan it and tell us why.

So is the 460 a special bell housing pattern? OR would it be the same as a 5.8, or 5.0?

The 429,460 351/400M share the same bell. The 5.8,5.0 are the smaller pattern.
