Here is a question, does anybody know what 4-speed manual transmission was used on older Cummins Dodges? I am planning out a conversion for my 77 Plymouth Trailduster and I have a NP 435 or 445 (I have to run the numbers) and a NP205 t-case. The doner is a 92 cummins 4 speed auto 2 wheel drive. The ultimate goal is the NV4500. And what size Flywheel was used?

Thank you

Dodge never offered a 4-speed manual on the cummins as far as I know. When they first offered the cummins, the tranny was a 5 speed Getrag 360. They used that until 1994, when they changed over to the second gen, and used an NV4500.

Ya I was afraid of that. I am trying to plan out my conversion with what I have. Like many out their money is getting hard to come by. I have my 1st gen 5.9 and a 2wd A518. The truck I am putting it in has a 4speed with the 205 t-case. D-44 up front and a Dodge 9.25 in back. I have the D-70 from the doner and I have to find a D-60 for the front.

That leaves me at finding a OD for the A518 for a 4WD as my least costly option. But that 5-speed would be so much nicer.

Thank you for the reply.

Some of the P-series step vans, that used the 4bt were mated to a SM465 4-speed. It would be easy enough to score one from a pre-80 Chevy 4x4, with a NP205(80-up is probably a NP208). Bonus is that the t-case drop is on the correct side.
