1988 7.3 oil gauge issues

I have an '88 7.3 manual with about 260k on it, just recently the oil gauge seems to have a mind of its own along with the engine light coming on. Seems to idle normal and be fine then it'll go all the way past low and then come back again. Seemed to be driving fine, gauge would be normal when driving but when ever I break it does the same thing.. any ideas?
