We got a little recognition on YouTube

12V, not 24V. And the blanked off vent he's pointing to is where the clock/calendar/trip timer would be, not where the AC vents would be. Otherwise, not a bad review. Anyone else notice the ether port on the intake duct?

    Air shocks

That's basically the idea. I daily the truck for work during the week, and it's not every weekend that I'm able to go off on some adventure in the woods, so the idea of a permanent lift doesn't appeal to me. rolling sleeve bags might work, but not as a replacement for shocks, due to their...

    Air shocks

Anyone tried air shocks on their cars or trucks? I'm finding plenty of info for air bags that are used for load leveling, but not much info on using shocks and struts. So far, I can identify the convoluted style bags, which are for load leveling and not good for lifts since they stiffen when...

    400 Miles and some off-road

Glad to see another bullnose on vacation. Even hard working trucks need some time off. I don't have a camper for mine, so I just slept in the cab.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Built a mount for my Iphone in the truck. The holes were already in the dash from a previous owner, so I modified one of those amazon kits but bolting the mounting ball to the plate. the swivel ball is usually a weak point on these things, so hopefully the bolt will reinforce things a bit.

    underbody/frame coating recommendations

Powder coating tends to fail quickly once it's scratched. Hot dip galvanizing is much more effective and costs about the same. Sometimes less. I used Raptor Liner on the exposed floor of my cab when I did the frame off resto years ago. It held up pretty well but isn't as durable as linex...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Replaced the sleeve couplings in my stainless steel exhaust with V-band clamps. No more leaks and easier to take apart if needed. Maybe someday I'll upgrade to a 4" pipe but until then, this is will do.

    80-91 tilt column rebuild

It's not really Keyed, in the conventional sense. Instead, it has a flat machined on one side. It's not much deeper than the splines themselves. You can see the flat machined part in the attached photo at the 2:45 O'clock position. You have to zoom in close to see it though. If I ever tear...

    80-91 tilt column rebuild

I'm not disagreeing with correctly finding the center of the steering box, but have my doubts that the shaft will can be that far off. If it is, it needs to be replaced. And in the case of my own truck I wouldn't want to force the splines on the steering shaft/wheel to fit somewhere it wasn't...

    80-91 tilt column rebuild

As far as I knew, there is no way to install the steering wheel any other way, unless it was forced on somehow. There may be differences with with other setups, but when I had mine apart, there was no way to install the rotating parts any other way, where splines were involved. The Steering...

    RIP Bill Hewitt

According to this, Bill Hewitt at PowerstrokeHelp.com has passed away. I can recall watching many hours of Bill Hewitt's videos even though I didn't own a powerstroke. History of the 6.0, all the dirty details of the 6.4, he was a walking encyclopedia. And funny enough, we now have a 6.0...

    Trans Temp too cold?

Sounds a bit like running an autobody shop. You can do a good job, or you can earn a living; you can't do both because a good job costs more than what most are willing to pay. Most folks who need a transmission rebuilt can't afford to pay what it takes to make it bullet proof. It's a grudge buy...

    Trans Temp too cold?

I've read that you can command lockup all the way down to 1st gear but I never tested it. I did run 2nd gear lockup on the highway without issues. Actually I miss being able to do that with the 3.08 gears. That was perfect for blasting up 10% grades at 2500 RPM with a trailer in tow.

    Trans Temp too cold?

I think mine may have reached 190F at one point while climbing (ramming) uphill through snow melt (heavy stuff). The worst of it was early in the summer, before I installed the temp gauge so I don't know for sure how hot it was. But I figured it was safe to say some heat would be generated by a...

    Trans Temp too cold?

Respect. I'd have done the same. I got 13 years out of the first build, and it only failed because I installed one of the seals backwards (intermediate clutch piston) . They were pretty pliable when I tore it down. Hopefully the new ones will last as well (2 years, and counting). I am running...

    Trans Temp too cold?

And here I thought I had a long term ownership with my truck. The guy's been around. Makes me wonder if I should get some Michelin LTX tires next time. This isn't the first time I've heard good things about their longevity. I like my current Toyo AT3s but they're done after 2 years. Admittedly...

    Trans Temp too cold?

That's exactly why I'm asking. I've seen plenty of charts that show an inverse life expectancy/temperature curve for automatic transmissions. But I've rarely seen anything that shows performance data for temperatures below 170F. If you used to build them for a living, I'm very interested in...

    Trans Temp too cold?

My truck didn't originally come with an E4OD, so I'm running an aftermarket controller. The temperature permissive for TC lockup is adjustable using the tuning software.

    Trans Temp too cold?

Normally TC lockup is disabled below 100F. I recently had to drop this setting because the converter would never lockup at all.

    Trans Temp too cold?

Looking for some opinions here. I rebuilt the E4OD transmission a couple years ago and it's been working fine. At the time, I installed a large transmission cooler and bypassed the rad cooler completely. The failure that brought about the overhaul was an internal assembly error leading to line...

    80-91 tilt column rebuild

Somebody sure spent a bit of time brainstorming this idea. At a first glance, one could say it's a terrible design, and ford was too cheap to install a conventional U-joint. Never the less, it seems to hold up just fine. And like just about everything else on an old Ford truck, you can adjust...

    80-91 tilt column rebuild

Are you sure it's not simply the ignition switch knocked out of alignment? If that checks out, have a closer look at the switch assembly. Sometimes the aluminum crimps that holds the switch together can come loose.

    80-91 tilt column rebuild

That part of the shaft is collapsible into the column. It's normally quite stiff, but you should be able to pull out enough length to properly attach the steering box shaft. EDIT: I never took a dedicated photo, but if you look in the background of this one, you can see the telescoping section...

    Monroe gas Magnum

I tried bilsteins on mine and they were too stiff for me. They were ok on the front, but the rear was so light, I would actually get axle bounce on some bumps, even on pavement. It was brutal on gravel roads or potholes. If I was hauling a camper or some other weight it might have been ok. I...

    80-91 tilt column rebuild

I thought I already posed photos of this but I guess not. Here's how the U-joint goes together in case anyone is wondering. I searched the web for any photos before tearing mine apart an came up empty.
