rthomas....your situation makes perfect sense if you think about it. When you put your camper in the bed, the truck weighs a whole lot more, and the added weight is centered right over the rear axle. Adding 2-3000 pounds to the bed makes a whole lot of difference in the stability of the truck...
The "Class IV" hitch on my truck is rated for 5K/500 weight carrying and 10K/1000 with weight distributing. I'm with BJS in thinking that you're overloading your hitch without using a weight distributing setup. The only hitch I know of off the top of my head that is rated to handle that...
Nope, sure haven't.....you just said something in your first post about a small speed boat, and I thought of those. Those boats are basically a Sea Doo jetski power system in a more traditional boat hull....if they're half as fun as the jetskis, they should be a blast to play with.
I've got about 8000 miles on a set of Yokahama Geolandar ATs. They've worn very well so far. My only complaint is that I could only get them in a Load Range D, so they sometimes feel a little mushy from side loading.
What kind of length do you have to play with? The smaller Sea Doo sportboats all have a 7' beam, but they're 14.5-15.5' long, plus the trailer tounge. Check this link and look at the three boats on the right.
