Falsified gvwr? Thats weird.
We always have the choice to license gvw below the mfr gvwr, so long as it's no less than 1.5x the curb weight.
ABS is a weird one to get caught on... How are they testing it for function? Isn't it one of those passive items that is assumed to be working so long as...
I'd be inclined to run some thicker/better oil in the ZF5. Maybe overfill thru the shifter opening (like us dodge getrag guys have to.) I forget what i ended up with in mine (nearly 15 years ago now). I know i was looking at redline MTL kind of stuff, maybe the royal purple? Rollover noise...
I did SMF on my powerstroke (also ZF5-s42) and never noticed a growl. The DMF was making a racket and didnt want to risk it letting go, possibly shattering the trans.
I'd want that bigger clutch lining. DMF is only 11" on the idi.
I reckon 'Perfection' amounts to a rockauto house brand; reboxed clutch made by somebody else. Compare pictures with other brands.
The Perfection clutch I got for my cummins dodge was a replica of the OE Sachs 13" used on the 89-93 dodges - only devoid of the 'Sachs' raised lettering.
Edit...
The old small inner bearing/journal did get phased out. The Dana 61 from the 80's-on and 60 from
mid-90's-on use the traditional dana 70 spindle which stacks up better.
The switch gets to be a problem when the pedal linkage is worn out.
I nearly had my leg pinched off between two trucks 25 years ago because a friend had disabled the interlock and it started in gear. I'll keep the safety switch thanks.
My understanding of the f250 4x4 dentsides is the 77-older have narrow frames (34") and ~40" perch spacing. (Aka 'highboys')
77.5+ have 38" frames and ~45" perches.
Mine leaked the same way. Ordered up an "engine tech" gasket set from rockauto, and got new head bolts from fastenal.
Lo and behold.... when I dont drive 75mph for hours at a time, the gasket doesn't leak. 2-3 years have gone by and i havent changed it.
The f250 4x4 doesnt have a solid axle. Its the twin-traction beam. Shorter beams than a 2wd.
The 2wd beam setup is similar for 150/250/350.
Another way to go is a body lift, and achieve your ground clearance with bigger tires.
I can always get at ujoint strap bolts with a socket and wobble extension. Might have to clock the shaft around for better angle though.
The straps and bolts can be bought at rockauto or wherever you buy ujoints.
Are the little ujoint cap 'stopper nubs' still in the yoke? If not, the caps will work themselves out. Is there fore/aft endplay in the trans? (Pull yoke in and out)
Is the d/s support bearing inline with the trans and pinion? (Laterally)
I suppose the shaft is bent now... but was it already...
Impressed to hear you managed 2.56 in a truck with an auto - and not be useless! I'd have been concerned with how much heat/slip happens when loaded; something you avoid with the manual.
I think my puzzler is where the rpm/torque ends up at common road speeds. A diesel has such good torque at...
That part I'm confident will be fine. I had a suburban I geared to 3.21 with the Sm465. (6.2 diesel though). 1st gear was most often used to start. Syncro doesnt matter because its pointless to downshift into 1st.
Thats the NP440 aka a833. More like a car trans. Only 3.09 1st gear.
https://www.dieselhub.com/trans/np440.html
The NP435 has a 6.68 1st... and i don't mind using 1st on these HD 4spds. Oh well, no rush for this; just spitballin' and pondering ;burnout
Hmmmm.... 35" is probably 315/75R16 and actually 34"? Lookin at an rpm chart, I'd have to get down to a 28" tire to match that.
400ci and 31's is what i had in mind.
Curious of anyone has/had a 4x4 with 3.07 diffs, and a grunty 4spd? Was it truly pathetic? Or tolerable? What gas engine?
Kind of trying to decide how to best use my Dana 61/71 axle pair. (Dodge)
Lots of 6.6L engines made.... Ford, dodge, chevy (sbc & bbc), pontiac, olds, buick. Mitsubishi diesels too.
The 403 Olds firebird sounds like a 78/79+ thing to backfill as the pontiac motor was phased out.
