    Oh $H!T Big Problem

The timing was set to 9 deg about 4000 miles ago. The engine was running perfect when I pulled it into the shop. It wasn't knocking and didn't have any unusal sounds other than air bubbles coming out the radiator. It sat for 2 months and when I started it up at 15 out side temp it took about 1...

    Oh $H!T Big Problem

Thanks for the comments guys! Robert, I don't think that it could be cavitation, I've had Evans coolant in there for 40,000 miles. Mel, I haven't touched anything inside the engine untill now, it just turned 140,000 miles. Oldbull8 I might take you up on that, I have to drive to...

    Oh $H!T Big Problem

Well the head gasket job has just gotten a lot more involved! I just found a crack in the #7 cylinder :puke:-cuss. It has a small crack and a lot of scuffing on the cylinder wall. The #5 cylinder had 1 loose head bolt, and I think thats why it had lower compression then the rest. What I don't...

    Head stud torque

I just got some ARP head studs (thanks Gary & Russ for the part #;Sweet) and was wondering if these take the same torque as a head bolt of 100 lbs or something differant. I read that the studs require 5 torquings before the final torquing, is that right. Also is there anything I should before...

I am getting ready to install head gaskets this week and was wondering if anyone has any advice or tips to make things go easier, or anything that I should check while the heads are off. Any and all help is appreciated.

    ATS elbow and downpipe

Sean, The farthest that I have been into my engine was new valve cover gaskets, and the truck has 140,000 miles on it. Last year I did a moose pump, injectors, glow plugs (that you supplied me with :thanks:), innercooler, turbo upgrades, 5" exhaust, aluminum radiator, water pump, and valve...

Russ do you have the 7 digit part numbers for the studs and washers? The numbers that Gary wrote I couldn't find anything in the ARP catalog.

    Head bolt question?

I found out that the powerstroke studs won't fit. Here is what ARP said in their email. The studs in that kit # are 12mm x 1.75 pitch. Eight of those studs are 6.625” long from end to end and twenty-eight of them are 6.850” long from end to end. Gary it looks like I will be using those...

Sean here is a picture of mine. I've had it for about 4 years and it's a Lund cold front grille blanket but I think that they stoped making them. Here is the only place I know of some that looks like it, but they only go back to a 92...

    ATS elbow and downpipe

I got them from http://www.jhdiesel.com/ats_exhaust.htm . They are really nice people. You can get just the outlet housing and downpipe from them no problem. You can use the outlet housing without the turbine housing. Talk with Anthony or Mike, if you want the whole kit it's part 73UKT, or if...

    Head bolt question?

Would any one happen to know what the head bolt size and thread on the 1st gen powerstroke are? The reason I ask is that a guy told me that head studs for a powerstroke will work on a 7.3 IDI? Has any one heard of this or know weather or not it will work?

I have been having a rotten month so far. It started out that the turbo drian bolts loosened and lost a bunch of oil every where. Ok easy fix. Big problem, oil in coolant

Thanks for the comments guys, I was hopeing that it was the oil cooler, and was most positive it had to be with how good it was running. Here are the compression numbers. 1-430 2-440 3-420 4-400 5-370 6-380 7-420 8-400 Anybody know why 5&6 would be that much lower? This has to be the...

    Big problem, oil in coolant

Hey guys, I've got a big problem! The other day when I shut the truck off I heard a funny sound, it was air bubbles comming out of the radiator, so I pulled the cap off and there was about 1 inch of oil in the radiator:eek::eek:. It didn't appear to have any coolant in the oil, the oil is black...
