Thankyou. Im torquing the heads too 100 as we speak from justin at r&ds advice. What air filter do you have? And yes i will be doing a bigger turbo with intercooler and cranking my fuel pump up till it stops.- Buffetkiller

Got my 6.9 back from the tranny shop(expensive mistake!). All the work i have done has made this thing run way smoother and feel more healthy. Looking for a Western Washington 7.3 IDI mechanic for regular maintenance
Very clean truck. I just overhauled mine(headgaskets, studs, waterpump, rear main seal, oilcooler, every gasket in the motor!). Learned a great deal about these while i did it. Truck runs way better now and leaks nothing. I would be willing to help with stuff as long as its not headgaskets...- Buffetkiller

I did the rear main just as the book said. The one I pulled out was flush to the outside. Old one was installed wrong. Learned a very expensive lesson. always pull your torque converter before pulling the motor! i broke my input shaft for the converter. Now I have to pull that too.- Buffetkiller

Problem is I threw the boxes away. I'm pretty tight with my Napa homies though so they might take them back. Just called the dealership and zd9s are 18$/plug! Might have to look online....- Buffetkiller

Thankyou for actually explaining the issue with the glow plugs. I will get some FOMOCO ones when I can. I don't want to remove the motor again! Just wasted $85! I did want to add a tip/bad experience, I found the way the OG book tells you too reseal the oil cooler is backwards. It says to put...- Buffetkiller

Thanks for the fuel line help. I was trying a drop of motor oil on the fitting and that wasn't working. As for the glow plugs I already bought them so oh well I guess... how to do they "swell"?- Buffetkiller

As you can see I was surprised to find out I had a rebuilt IP. it says 67cc on it so i assume its just factory settings(as the modified pumps start at 90 I believe) Right now I'm trying to figure out how I can make my turbo drain way more reliable because that is half the reason it leaked so...- Buffetkiller

the motor is out. YAY! I although feel way in over my head.. lol. But 1 thing at a time and I will get it done. What is the procedure for making sure the IP is put back in the same timing as it was? As in like do I mark it somehow?- Buffetkiller

Well I guess I need to rename the thread again. I did find out mine is a 6.9L. My motor didn't run bad, just needs gaskets so I'm sure the 2.5 gallons of oil kept the cam nice then:) Now im in a pickle though..... the motor is wedged in between the firewall and the studs on the motor mounts...- Buffetkiller

Also I'm thinking about resituating the turbo charge pipe and intake pipe. The CDR? valve was mounted to the big hunky banks intake. Where would one put that CDR valve if they were doing turbo work?- Buffetkiller

The motor is ready to pull! Another quick question is, What exactly is an "R&R" like everyone talks about with these? I am of coarse putting new head gaskets on along with heads. i do have a complete engine gasket set also. Is there anything else to look for or do? I was gonna do the rear...- Buffetkiller

Thanks for all the info guys. funny thing is I did have a ZF5 in the truck I tore down as well as a kingpin dana 60. but as we pulled the motor the bell housing on the trans came with it! Such a shame it had a crack from the driver side all the way too the pass. So I sold the good "swap" parts...- Buffetkiller
