Ok I’m guessing I have some king mother of all shorts. I heard a loud buzzing coming from the passenger side battery while trying to pull codes. Fiddled with wires are it got better. No idea where to start here.
Ok I’ve been working on a laundry list of issues on my 91 E350 IDI. I most recently fixed a leaking fuel line after (front of) #4 and took a drive to town.
Lots of details—not sure what’s relevant.
Water In Fuel light was on—I drained the filter and it was still flickering after so I figured I...
Well I cleared my codes and everything seems fine, or at least as janky as usual. Will report back if the issue resurfaces. If this sounds familiar to anyone I’ll appreciate a weigh in. Cheers!
So after driving a good while without any hiccups I parked my 91 7.3idi E350 short bus for about three weeks of bitter cold. When I went to turn it over for the first time the dreaded OD light of doom started blinking before I even got her going. Had to jump it and now the OD light isn’t coming...
Just one more question—for the four bolts that contact oil, can I use the permatex WP gasket goop or blue locktite or do I need some third kind of magic sludge?
Excellent tips everyone, thanks so much for that write up snicklas! Some poor guy in the future will be glad he found this thread. Exactly what I needed. It’s one of those times where if I start this project and don’t have what I need, I’ll be taking the bus back and forth to the parts store ha...
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1340621-fan-clutch-water-pump-replacement.html
Ok duh, I found this. Anything additional for an automatic that jumps out at ya?
Searching has been a mixed bag—mostly running into serpentine instructions. Does anyone have a link for a thorough water pump replacement procedure for a 91 V-belt? Are both the big fan clutch nut and pulley bolts LHT? I’m a bit confused there. Mostly wondering what all accessories I have to...
Annoying greenhorn here. Parked today and saw a coolant leak, traced it back to the water pump. Went in to check things out and found that my fan had about a half inch of play in it. I can grab a blade and shake it down to the pulley like a loose tooth. What the heck is that about? Do I need to...
I’m finding conflicting info on the steps to remove the vacuum pump and exchange the pulley. From what I’m seeing I have to pull the pulley first with the V belt set up. I use a rental power steering puller, unless it doesn’t fit—then buy the harbor freight kit. That sound right? Or can I get...
Well I lucked out then—got a big one from the scrap yard, works good. When I returned the little reman one and got my original back it had some brake fluid running down the front looks like. I really did win the vacuum lottery—my booster, lines, check valve, and belt were all legitimately bad...
‘91 Ford / Collins Bantam, 7.3 idi from the Sacramento school district, converted into a camper for an old timey country blues musician. Crappy photos but hoping to give y’all a reason to help me out as a total noob :D
Long story short I ended up putting in a reman booster that fits my rig (and was sure easier to get in than the bigger guy was to get out!) but is smaller than my old one (which was probably working perfectly... the vac pump was just playing games with me).
Anyone ever tried to use a smaller...
I finally got a vacuum gauge on it, I’m pulling over 21. Still have intermittent hard brakes. New lines, check, belt—likely booster? Don’t get a whoosh when I pull the check. Can the booster fail intermittently? Doesn’t seem to make sense to me.
Just bought a used brake booster off a fellow who smoked a cigar and talked to me about his previous customer’s boobs—what could possibly go wrong, right?
My question: is the green foamy bushing sleeve that surrounds the pedal rod where it enters the booster an integral part of the system...
Ok I can simplify all this now—if vent air pressure lowers when brakes applied and pedal sinks slowly to floor with pressure after a hard brake is it fair to assume it’s a leak in the booster diaphragm or could I still be looking at a vacuum pump?
No noise from vac pump I can hear—engine off the brake pedal will hiss once with pressure, then a little less and then not at all, getting stiffer each time, then will let out a nice long sigh at start up.
Welllp, I guess Eastern Oregon is as good a place as any to break down and start my new life as a cowboy...
‘91 Ford E350 Bantam 7.3IDI
Pulled off the highway yesterday and all of a sudden my brakes got as stiff as (bad joke here), no boost assist at all except the first brake after start up...
*caugh* oh... I um... got it... ha. If anyone else is as dumb as me there’s a tab on the back of the socket and it connects to a wire and terminal that apparently sometimes falls back behind the cluster... just, uh, so you know.
i run an inverter off my 7.3 cigar lighter socket and it’s been malfunctioning so I took it apart, changed the fuse, checked everything. From what I can tell I’m getting power to the back of the socket but I don’t get a reading if I connect to negative of my voltmeter to the wall of the socket...
