iirc, the timing belt interval is upped to 100k with manual, 80k with auto on account of the the extra forces on the pump with latest generation of parts. its not the belt that was really changed to get this upgrade, its the tensioner. as far as belt vs. chain or gear, its an economy of...- sinneD

PLEASE for the love of your car RE-READ the oil requirements. You NEED to use oil that is approved under the VW 505.01 specification to maintain warranty coverage. The easiest place to get it is the dealer. Should be under $6/l. If its more, tell them to give you a better price. Before you...- sinneD
