    THSIM9’s 1991 F250 Project

38 gallon tank installed and plumbed through to the engine bay. Belt drive brackets installed, alternator, vacuum pump, and power steering installed. Still need to install the AC compressor. Fuel filters sit just barely higher than the skid plate for the transfer case. Should be a pretty safe...

    THSIM9’s 1991 F250 Project

Return lines, injector lines, turbo, and downpipe all installed today. Don’t look too closely at any of my painting. I’m more of a wrench guy than a paint guy.

    THSIM9’s 1991 F250 Project

Pressure washed the frame and everything up front, added some new stick on insulation to the firewall, sprayed everything down with a little black VHT and clear coat, and got the engine back in the frame. Hopefully tomorrow will be return lines, injectors lines, turbo, and the belt drive...

    THSIM9’s 1991 F250 Project

Lots of time spent cleaning old dirty parts and getting things painted and ready to go back together. Took the opportunity with the engine out to replace the motor mounts, front leaf springs, and shocks. Now that’s it’s warming up it’s about time to roll the truck outside and pressure...

    THSIM9’s 1991 F250 Project

I decided while I was in the heads I would have them install new valves, keepers, bronze valve guides, the comp 910 springs and get everything set back to spec. While they worked on this I continued to tear down the engine and found another damaged piston. I measured the bores once the...

    THSIM9’s 1991 F250 Project

At this point I ordered all the fun goodies from CDD and began getting the engine ready for removal. I found a local rental place that had a cherry picker for 50 bucks per weekend, and got the boat anchor removed. I purchased the Daytona gear driven engine stand from HF to hold the hunk of...

    THSIM9’s 1991 F250 Project

Once the winter set in my father in law was gracious enough to allow me to take up half of his shop for the teardown of the truck. At this point I foolishly suspected a simple failure in the injection system that was causing the miss, and puffing of smoke. When I went to move the truck to the...

    THSIM9’s 1991 F250 Project

Northern Arizona is an incredible place for all things outdoors, but especially hunting. I am going to be applying for tags there for the rest of my life. Luckily the property we were on is still in the family so we always have a place to go.

    THSIM9’s 1991 F250 Project

After a short stint in Mormon Lake she once again handled the moving duties. This time about 250 miles from Mormon Lake to Sahuarita. Where she went on the sideline once again since I had a company truck and the wife drove the F150. After a year in Sahuarita just pulling weekend fun duty we got...

    THSIM9’s 1991 F250 Project

The next year or two were pretty uneventful, the truck was my daily driver and it was stupid reliable. I decided to go to college and bought a commuter car to ease my fuel costs so the truck went back to my grandparents house to sit while I got learnt. :rotflmao After about two years I was...

    THSIM9’s 1991 F250 Project

I was active duty Army at the time of acquiring the truck so it remained in AZ at my parents house for the next several months. I eventually decided to ship it up to Fort Drum NY where I was stationed so that I could get it ready to drive me home upon my departure from the Army. I also...

    THSIM9’s 1991 F250 Project

Well it’s about time to start a build thread now that I’m almost done. :dunno I will be updating the thread over the next few days with a general timeline of how things went down and I will eventually catch up to where I am now. To start, the truck has been in my family for about 20 years. It...

    Go to reman injection pump

CDD is pretty backed up, I sent my pump in back in January and I just got it back last week. They were great about keeping me in the loop, just slower than anticipated.

    Rear Main Seal Questions

Going to revive this thread and add a new question. I just installed a new rear main and upon inspection it looks like the edge of the seal rolled while it was going on. I did not have to fight it or do anything extreme to get it on. I just lined it up, got it started over the crank and then put...

    Yet another heads thread

Nice! We are on very similar timelines. I just got my heads back last week. (Not from Justin) last parts I’m waiting on are the pump and injectors coming back from CDD. I got my new pistons installed last weekend, hoping to get the heads on this week and start getting ready to stab this thing...

    Clutch Questions!

Haha I only spit in clear bottles with lids. Two fold theory, I never drink the wrong bottle, and if it gets knocked over it doesn’t make a nasty mess. I’ve chewed off an on for the last 8 or so years and it hasn’t failed me yet. I am fortunate enough to not be easily hooked on anything… except...

    Clutch Questions!

At least 2 cupholders required. 1 for your drink, and 1 for holding a Copenhagen spit cup. LOL

    Clutch Questions!

I converted to SMF about 5 years ago. Used a LUK kit. You get used to the rollover noise, I’ve found that a little bit of Lucas oil stabilizer helps quiet it down just a little. Some people will look at you funny when slow rolling in a parking lot. LOL

    Pending Machine Work

Heads should be done today. Hoping to pick them up tomorrow. Went ahead and bought the tools to measure the block and check tolerances, everything is in spec and looks really good. So I decided to do all new pistons/rings which should arrive on Friday. Turbo/IC kit from CDD is in the mail as we...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Cleaned up my block after measuring all the bores yesterday. Everything is looking good so far. Probably going to measure the bores one more time tomorrow just to be sure. Heads should be back to me this week, assuming bores are indeed good I will be ordering pistons and rings this week and...

    8th Gen 7.3 IDI C.O.I?

Gotcha. Well that’s good info I appreciate it. Guess I will have to get creative with the intake on this truck. I like what @Lumberjackchuck did in the posts above. Either something like that to avoid the A/C on my V belts or maybe get the stuff and convert to a serpentine setup.

    8th Gen 7.3 IDI C.O.I?

Where are you seeing that? Or do you know from experience? Reading the page it mentions it fits 87-94 trucks with diesel core support, and even mentions fitting in front of the A/C condenser which would indicate that it should fit v belt trucks that had A/C. Curious because I have a stage 2...

10-4 thanks for the advice. I was pretty bummed out when I got the heads off and found this other damaged piston. I was already deep into the pockets in parts and didn’t budget for all the machine work. But I guess if you want to play with 30+ year old stuff you probably should assume you will...

    Pending Machine Work

Little update on my situation here. The shop got the heads cleaned up and magnafluxed, no issues there. They were able to get me some stellite valves, and bronze valve guides, I left my brand new set of Comp springs with them for install. Should be getting completely rebuilt heads back this...
