I had a billowing white smoke issue that smelt heavily of fuel on a idi engine. I went through all the obvious things like pump and injectors with no luck. It ended up being a broken rocker on an inlet valve. I couldn't get air into the cylinder to ignite the fuel and it created a lot of white...
I had something similar happen to me, tons of white smoke that you could smell the unburnt diesel in and running rough, it turned out to be a broken rocker and post on the inlet valve on #8 cylinder. Found it after doing a compression check. All the other cylinders were above 350 psi and I think...
When I rebuilt the engine, the head thickness, valve recession was in spec. Upgraded valve springs were fitted and shimmed to the correct height. Reduced height pistons were also fitted. I checked the valve clearance by sticking plasticene on the valves and torqueing the heads down, using the...
Got the cover rocker cover off and found #8 inlet rocker broken. The internal slider has split on one side and rocker has jammed. The push rod is still straight and the lifter seems ok. Has anyone had this happen before?
Finally got back to fixing the truck and got a compression test done.
Cylinders 1-7 were around the 400psi and 8 was around 150psi. I didn't have time to take of the covers last night so this afternoon i'll remove the rocker cover and go from there.
I have it booked into a shop for Thursday for a compression test.
It will cost me just as much for a diesel compression tester as getting it done in the shop.
Tried the ATF and gave the truck a good hard run
, it hasn't made by difference. The advance piston seems to be working, when I push it in the engine quite sure and drops revs a little. So back to the drawing board. One thing I have noticed though is that the crankcase seems to have a lot more...
Got a chance to look at the engine today. The oil and coolant look ok. I pushed the advance in and the engine changed tone and slowed down so that seems ok The exhaust definitely smells of diesel. I cracked each injector and they seemed to have the same effect on the engine, it just seemed...
I haven't touched the IP since it was timed. It's a junior moose with not many miles on it.
The ticking noise has gone, but it still has a miss and is puffing white smoke.
I didn't get a chance to crack the lines yesterday, had to get a roast going on the Weber for Mothers day. Gotta keep in...
I was driving at highway speed and suddenly the engine started to make a loud ticking noise, lose some power, running rough and produciing a hell of a lot of white smoke. I was luckily not to far from home and was able to limp back. I'm guessing the valve train but are there other things I...
I've made a a flange with a nozzle to fit where the CDR valve used to bolt to the alloy casting on the inlet side to the turbo. I haven't had a chance to do anymore with work being busy. It'll be at least another week before I get a chance to get back to it. The next thing will be to make a...
Ok thanks for that Wes.
The catch can is a provent 200 with 1" inlet and outlet. It doesn't have much of a reservoir to hold what it catch's, so I'll make something removable for it to drain to, rather than the engine.
My bad. I was a bit short on details. My plan is to put the catch can into tho hose between the crankcase vent on the front of the injection pump cover and where it attaches to CDR valve on the intake to the banks turbo so it will be a closed system and the oil collected from that I was going to...
Hi All
I'm fitting an oil catch can to the truck and I was going to drain it back through the cover plate where the mechanical fuel pump used to be.
Has anyone used this spot to drain the oil back?
The new selector valve finally arrived and I fitted it over the weekend.
It was all looking good when I started the truck after fitting the valve the fuel tanks indicated around half full on both tanks. So I filled up the front tank and started the truck and the gauge read full with the switch...
I've been able to find the Pollak valve over here for $199. Most auto parts over here are a lot more expensive. I hope I can tie in to the nylon lines.
Don't really want to change the set-up if i can avoid it. I'll see if i can find one of the universal ones over here. Do you know what's involved in changing the wiring?
I thought that to. It s definitely leaking from the body. When the truck is running I can dry off the valve and I can see exactly where its weeping out of the body. I'll try and get a picture this afternoon. Ford sold the PSD's over here for a while so I'll see what Ford wants for the valve...
Think I've found the problem. I have fuel weeping from the selector valves plastic housing, my guess is something inside is about to let go. Are these still available from Ford or is there a good aftermarket one available. It has the quick connect fittings. I'm going to search the net and see...
