    W80: keeping it mixed

The Ford steering pump I got after the first one started leaking must be internally different - tripped motor thermal switch within 10 seconds of running at 80psi. Yes, there are many things I could have done to remedy that, but I didn’t want to. Fuge setup and two tank stuff are all for sale...

    W80: keeping it mixed

Went on vacation for two weeks. Before I left, fuge pump started leaking terribly out of the seal. Bought a reman pump to replace it, hopefully getting that going tonight again. Another $35 on the WMO investment tab slowing me from actual savings... what a pain getting all this going again has...

    W80: keeping it mixed

I was fighting similar problems where it would wind up and after a few minutes very clearly lose lots of RPM in a short period of time. Different than the gradual pressure loss as the oil thins from warming. Initially, I found that replacing the bronze bushings helped. After a couple batches, I...

    W80: keeping it mixed

I agree. My wagon ran 400+ gal and I didn't have any problems while I had it. I suspect water.

    W80: keeping it mixed

Hit some setbacks last week. Slowly went from a noticeable power loss which switching back to diesel to eventually not even being able to idle on either fuel. Ended up needing to replace my injection pump. Most likely scored barrels and plungers. I had some applesauce veg I blended with gas to...

    Steering pump for fuge

Ran mine with above direct drive setup for close to 30hrs on this first batch. 80psi with what's probably the thickest batch it will ever see. Motor was warm, about 180* but consistently stayed there.

    W80: keeping it mixed

Any idea why? Even with the two tank setup? Really trying to avoid that. I'm hoping running homemade fuel almost exclusively on the highway and all of my around town driving being done on diesel with Power Service mixed in will help. Though it sounds like that's what you did... and are still...

Finally going with this stuff. Had to replace pump and bushings in the centrifuge and running good now. Drove to work today on free fuel. Working great so far.

    W80: keeping it mixed

Ahhh ok. Yeah, I would start cutting with 10-20% gas while fuging. That's what I have always done and seems to be common practice. You could probably dial the D2 percentage back a little if you want to keep your total WMO percentage at 50%.

Remember too that you're really trying to replicate the viscosity of diesel. You will never get there by thinning with diesel. Gas is a better choice.

    W80: keeping it mixed

Yes. I plan to blend around 10% this time. 15-20% is very common. 15w-40 is way too thick to run straight.

    Steering pump for fuge

Works great, but electric motor is getting got. Ran for about an hour last night and IR temp gun was reading 190* and climbing. Current blend is a little thick and pressure set at 90psi, hoping thinning it out a hair and running at 80psi will keep it sustained at a cooler temp. I don't remember...

    Steering pump for fuge

Welp, went against everyone's advice [emoji51] True test will be what happens when it's plumbed in.

    Steering pump for fuge

I think I'm going to run one of these. Do you guys think the 1725rpm 1/3hp motor will run the steering pump enough 1:1 (no pulleys, just a direct shaft coupler) to make 90psi? I see a lot of you guys are running some reduction through different sized pulleys.

    Steering pump for fuge

What's a common application you guys are using for the steering pumps with no reservoir? The gear pump that came with my PA bio fuge crapped and is $200 to replace.

    W80: keeping it mixed

Fuge is all cleaned up and I'm having trouble getting more than 50psi out of it. Tried everything I can think of. Looking to replace the bowl or the whole fuge assembly. From there, rebuild or replace the pump. Bah!

    W80: keeping it mixed

Got everything taken apart on the fuge and soaking in simple green. Veg really had everything gunked up. Scored a 12gal boat tank for $40 that will go in the trunk. That will be the homemade fuel tank. 1/2" rubber hose to the valve below. Looped return and no heat exchanger unless it proves to...

    W80: keeping it mixed

Ordered some parts today and should be on the road next week. Need to get the fuge up and running again, needs a good cleaning and resealing of all the plumbing. Thinking 20-30% blend, possibly with a combo electric heater / heat exchanger setup for now. Will look to replicate Acid's two tank...

    W80: keeping it mixed

240D wasn't bad overall but needed four tires, battery, windows didn't go down, glow plugs didn't work and dash lights didn't work. Jeep needs a lot done before wheel season starts so I passed, wanted something I could put plates on and go. Will look again in the spring, wouldn't surprise me if...
