    93 F250 E4OD

I have a code 62 problem. I bought a code reader and tested it several times. This truck is a 4wd 3/4 ton single cab. I bought it for $1800 about 3 years ago. I have had loss of over drive (O/D) problems since I bought it. It runs great when I turn O/D off. O/D works but it will go into...

    Wiring harness plug

I'm getting ready to order a re-manufactured solenoid pack off ebay. Anyone have experience with these? Is this a reliable part? Thanks,

    Wiring harness plug

Thanks for the tip. I got it off. The plug was full of gunk. I dropped the solenoid pack too and the pins looks pretty clean. Think i'm going splice on a new plug, replace the solenoid pack and put a new filter on. Replacing the solenoid pack may be overkill but I won't have to dig into it...

    Wiring harness plug

I am attempting fix my code 62 problem (E4od)with a new wiring harness plug. I dropped the transmission pan and removed the cover over the plug. The plug won't budge. Any tips for how to get the plug off the solenoid pack? It's kind of in a tight spot. Tried to pop off with a screwdriver...

    Annual Oil Change?

So I'm putting about 3000 miles a year on my 93 IDI. I was changing the oil every six months. Now I'm thinking about every year. I drive around town once or twice a week but don't go very far. Anyone see any reason to change oil more frequently than one a year? Using Motorcraft 15w-40...

    Engine Oil

Thanks. No big deal then. Seemed a little odd as my toyota 4runner with 200,000 miles still has pretty clean oil after 3000 miles.

    Engine Oil

I bought a '93 IDI F250 from my neighbor late last summer. This is my first diesel. When I bought it the guy said he had just changed the oil and he had the date written on the filter. I've put about 500 miles on it since then. I checked the oil this morning and it is dark black. This seems...

    alternator check

Yep, I pulled the code (62). I've got another post about it. Separate issues. Looks like a TC problem.

    89' ford f250

Something similar happened to me. Just bought a '93 F250. Thought everything was fine. Seller gave me a story about how he' s a retired mechanic and just doesn't drive it much anymore. Bought for $2,000. Now it's throwing a transmission code and has a torque converter problem. Transmission...

    alternator check

Cleaned my battery cable connection. No change. Guess I have to buy a new cable. Oreilly has one for $83. Cheaper than the other auto parts places and cheaper than ebay. Wow, that's a lot for a battery cable!

    Flashing O/D light. Code 62

Thanks guys. Checked trans fluid with engine hot and running. Full and red, looks ok. Tach and speedo working fine. This has not been an issue so far. I've cleared the codes several times by removing the neg battery cables. The flashing o/d light keeps coming back but only after I drive 10...

    Flashing O/D light. Code 62

Just ran codes. Only getting code 62. Guess I have a torque converter issue. Took it to a trans shop about a month ago (before I had a code reader). The guy didn't say anything about the TC. He tried a new solenoid pack but that did nothing. He told me to drive it as is and eventually my...

    alternator check

Check it again. Getting 12.55 on the battery post and 14.6 on the cable. Will try cleaning it up then put on a new cable of needed. Thanks.

    alternator check

I'm trying to isolate an E4OD O/D flashing light problem. The first thing I did was check the alternator. I get 14.6 volts from the driver side battery and 12.55 volts from the passenger side battery. Is this normal? Shouldn't I be getting about the same voltage from both batteries? I get...

    Cavitation question

I bought a '93 F250 with the 7.3l IDI about a month ago. It has 156,000 miles. I asked the prior owner about SCAs and he had no idea what I was talking about. They guy is a retired mechanic and was meticulous about maintenance. He did have green anti-freeze in it. The radiator was leaking...

    Coolant change keeping it simple.

Thanks, I think I'm going to just buy a new radiator. Checked out Champion and prices aren't too bad. Can I just drop the radiator in and all the existing fittings will attach? Anything weird I should look out for. I guess I will be replacing the thermostat and serpentine belt while I'm...

    Coolant change keeping it simple.

I will be taking my radiator into the shop to fix a top seal leak. I plan to do a system flush when I put it back in. All the information on coolant choices is confusing. Am I OK to just use 50/50 Fleet Charge (pre-charged SCA) and use test stips every six month or so? I really don't want to...

Looking at '93 7.3L IDI Diesel tomorrow

Thanks for all the advice. Met the guy at 9:00am. He said it hadn't been run in 2 or 3 days. Popped the hood and put my hand on the radiator cap. It was cold. Drove by the truck a few times before 9:00am to see if the guy was out there starting it to warm it up. He wasn't. Truck started up...

Looking at '93 7.3L IDI Diesel tomorrow

Thanks. 4x4 automatic standard cab. I think it's a F250. Not a dually. Will question the seller about using coolant additives, but I'm I've never owned a diesel before so I not sure I can pick out everything wrong with it. I can learn to fix the smaller stuff but i'm not up to the challenge...

Looking at '93 7.3L IDI Diesel tomorrow

Guy down the street is selling a 1993 ford diesel pickup. 156,000 miles. Going to test drive in the morning. Just read the article on cavitation. Don't have time to buy sca test strips. Any recommendations on things to look for so I don't end up with bad engine? Thanks everyone.
