You can also use the 4r100 from a 7.3 power stroke and use the IDI torque converter. The stand alone controllers are robust and simple, adding very little "electronics" to your truck. As you have seen a core trans is cheap and around here a rebuild is 1000-1400 with you removing and installing...
Drew, I used that pump you listed for running through the filters and used the trash pump https://www.harborfreight.com/12-hp-cast-iron-transfer-pump-1525-gph-63316.html to move large amounts.
I used a whole house filter and HF trash pump. Kept two barrels one settling ad the other of filtered. I would pump off the top of the settled through the filter and into the other tank. When I added oil to my truck tank I would pump through the filter again. I would use 20 micron on first...
I have flipped about 4 trucks through Co-Part. With a small margin for profit I have to bid wisely and only in the states that allow private party bidding on the site.
Maybe a call to that company to educate yourself of what year model truck/van you can use. According to their website it seems late 89/90-94. That might make the junk yard scrounging a bit easier. But I am just going off what I read.
They have a tech line to call and make sure you have the right one. Give them part # for your trans on the sticker. Should be able to get you going for not a lot of money.
Sounds like a fun project. There are enough professional kits and home built systems to hopefully debunk the talk of lag and exhaust heat. I think people just automatically bring that up without research. I could literally drop dozens of links here but thought one little article on a GMC 4.8 gas...
It is no different than any mechanical injected swap into a SD, so go for it. Should be a great build! I have been looking for a donor body to do this with my son. After a lot of research you can swap over the 6.4 sensors (temp, oil, etc) and keep your gauges. The crank sensor is swapable to...
Bronc, you of all people will understand this. My 11yr son and I are researching a 7.3 3rd gen Expedition build. We sold our last IDI and built a 1960 Willys and are building a tube frame buggy right now. After multiple measurements I believe the IDI bellhousing adapter can be drilled for the...
Um, let me offer the solution I used on a 84' 6.9 rear seal. Power steering "stop leak" from auto parts store. Dumped it in ran the snot out of it and changed oil in a couple days. Done! ;)
