    If it were my pump, I would simply wire it for 690V, and feed it with 480V. That's 30% undervoltaged, but at that small of a HP, heat shouldn't be an issue.

    Don't replace the motor, if it's sub 3HP, you can get an inverter drive to run it cheaper than you can find the replacement single phase motor, AND with the inverter you can vary the speed.

    I have found that using diesel as the cutting agent reduced my smoke drastically. Compared to RUG. For my Mercedes, 25% is the sweet spot, for my truck it doesn't matter, i't gonna smoke like it's on fire no matter what fuel it is on. I don't know what your fuel prices are doing over there...
