Buying a truck, 1995, some questions

You'd have about as much in a manual swap as you would in beefing up the auto by the times it's all said and done. Course that kinda depends on how many miles and health of the tranny is in.

    23 MPG Highway towin' trailer

215s maybe right.............never needed training wheels so I didn't pay much attention. I'll take a pic of the sticker on my door jam if ya don't believe me but 245s are what came from the factory on my 1994 Dodge Ram 2500. ;Sweet

    23 MPG Highway towin' trailer

Tho getting 23 MPG while towing ya gotta have a very small lightweight trailer or it's really arrowdynamic. You hook onto a 5th wheel RV, a loaded flatbed goosneck, or a stock trailer (what I consider a trailer, anything under 16' is really an extension of the pick up bed IMO) and that 23 MPG...

    23 MPG Highway towin' trailer

Thats all the more my 94 gets usually. Autos are at a little disadvantage in the mileage department vs. manual trucks. I get 17 usually on the highway (cruising @ 75), 15 around town, and 8-12 towing. Tho my towing mileage can vary greatly depending on what I am towing, how heavy it is, and...

What type of slushboxes yall runnin?

I've been pretty happy with my DTT so far. Only have around 1500k on it so I'm still waiting for it to get broke in. I did have a Blumenthal tranny in the truck before this one and it was nothing more than a warmed over stock tranny w/ an ATS triple disc TC. And I wouldn't recommend Blumenthal...

ISX vs C15 fuel economy (and 379vsW900)

The DDEC4 (I believe thats what its called) that controls the MB engines in the Freightliners is pretty neat, I imagine the Western Stars would have it too. It logs idle time, when the engine is on or off, driving MPG (no idleing), total MPG (including idle), and a whole lot of other things. I'm...

    Freightliner and MB motors??

I've wrenched on a few. Their not any worse than anything else I've worked on as far as ease of maintence goes. The trucking company I usto work for has about a dozen of the 500 hp models in some Freightliner Class 8s running around. I never heard any complaints about them from the drivers. Is...

    94 Cummins big bomb

I have a #10 plate and 370s on stock DV's, tho I do have a slight stumble at low RPMs with them. To answer a few of the questions: Injector install kit - comes with all the washers, seals, and other things needed when switching injectors 4000 GSK - Governor Spring kit, allows the motor...

    Timing How To?

It's absolutely critical that the pump shaft is clean and dry when the gear goes back on (no oil or dirt). Spray the shaft down with Brake-clean and then use an air gun to blow it off, repeat that atleast 2 times. Could it be possible the shaft threads are stripped and letting the nut back off...

I had a 16 cm housing awhile back but never put it on, so I sold it. It came with new gaskets for the oil return line and between the housing and manifold. Nathan

    slack adjusters: manual vs auto

Just some FYI. You can't have an auto and a manual on the same axle. The slack adjusters on the axle have to be the same or the DOT will count that against you. Now you can have one axle w/ autos and another axle w/ manuals but no mixing'n'matching on one axle. As far as which ones I like...

    Where is all the Cummins-aholics

I have alot I could post about fixing my truck but it just gets me pissed off at the so called professionals. I recently had the pinion nut come off the front axle and wiped out the ring gear. How something that is supposed to be torqued to 250-300 ft. lbs. can back off is beyond me. That was...

Would you haul this? Cat D-5 on a SRW Chevy

That truck and trailer is more than capable of pulling that, but how well can he stop? And rather stupid to be running w/o any tie downs regardless of how far you are going. Nathan

UPS v FedEx v Airborne Express

I seem to get everything I order UPS, which is okay b/c the have a daily run out here in the sticks. But I ship everything USPS and have had pretty good luck with it. And USPS is cheaper the UPS here lately. Nathan

    47rh tranny issues? Needing advice

Well alotta people make good TC's. It's more a matter of what you use the truck for and the power level you are/want to be at as to which one to choose. You might want to check this thread out over at the TDR forums for some info on the different TC's. TC thread at TDR There is some horn...
