Under the injection pump on the left side. Just above the pan line. Numbers are maybe an inch tall. Hard to miss. Don't freak if you have a #53 many guys have put many miles on them with no problems. Only a few have problems, which show up faster with more HP.
Do you have a fuel pressure guage? When was the last time you changed the fuel filter. Are you still running the stock intercooler boots? I've had trouble with them blowing off a lot less than 40 psi. I'd use a rubber pipe cap over the turbo inlet to test for boost leaks. You can get a hose...
I lost one at 55k. Now psi is slowly slipping so I'm looking for options. Does anybody else get stupid looks from people when you tell them that a fuel pressure guage is a must on these trucks? It's hard to convince people that it's a little money now or a LOT later for a new VP.
I'm runnin the BHAF set up and I like it more the the older AFE filter I had. I think a big paper filter is hard to beat for a good combo of air flow and good filtration. That outerwares cover looks like a good idea. Think I get one of those!
96-98 12 valves with manual trans all have the 215hp pump. If you find an earlier year for cheap you can upgrade the pump to keep up with your other mods. Try http://www.dieseldynamics.com/ truck configurator for an idea of what one company thinks it will cost to make a given HP.
Nice truck! I didn't know they went to the newer front end style in 92. Is that the first year? Also is it just me or are the body lines between the cab and bed way mismatched? You might look at the body bushings. For what your going to spend on a banks turbo I'd look for an used cummins. Being...
I'd go after it with some brake cleaner and a tube of Ultra RTV were it me. But I'm just a back woods hilljack :D
Doesn't make sense that it leaks less when warmer? All my leaks get worse as the weather warms up and everything runs hotter causing thinner oil. Anyone else think this could be...
Sounds like something is plugging the line to me. The key position has nothing to do with the fuel delivery on the older trucks, it's all mechanical. When you pressurized the tank were you getting air out? Sometimes the pickup in the tank can fall off up high. Pull the inlet line off the fuel...
Wow 42psi is alot for that turbo! Talk about drive pressure. One thing I keep forgeetting is that not everyone lives at the elevation I do. My gf's 98 5speed has an 11 full forward and it is running 1350 after a 0-75mph hammer down. I'd have to slide it back if she ever pulled a trailer cause...
Not trying to being an arse or anything but something is wrong with those #s. What kind of boost does that truck make? All the plate you can throw at that truck should be way exceeding the turbo's capability. EGT guages can can be a PITA sometimes. Or something is wrong with the fuel system on...
Sweet, sounds like you found the problem. If balls out in 5th=1100deg, I would slide that plate forward for more ponies and smoke. But only if you got the clutch to hold it. Just keep it under 1250 egts for extended pulling. Also stock turbos go away at 38+ psi so keep it below that till the...
You need to plug the wastegate or use a waste gate control elbow if you haven't already. If your not making much boost you can check for leaks by caping the turbo inlet and hooking up compressed air to the manifold. Those temps sound high to me, need more air somehow
Is this an auto or manual?
Yup, converter drain back. I have a C4 that has been doing that since I got it and it's still going after 30k+ miles of me beating on it. Just got to remember to wait for it. I thing bad things might happen if you gave lots a throttle before it made some line pressure.
