Front corner seriously mashed by wall. Front door mount moved quite a bit. Windshield even cracked in corner. And body step rail under cargo door pushed in several inches. Off to the wrecking yard. Broadsided April 30th, then swerved into a sturdy concrete wall. She drove up onto the tow truck today. 12 good years, lots of work, but learned a lot. Many happy, clattery miles. Was going to give up on OB, but now I think my experience and knowledge may help...- idi_econoline

Well, thanks for trying. It makes no sense. This started after sitting for 2 weeks, brake hydraulics. That green connector got pulled apart AFTER the initial problem. And the cluster volt gauge reads about 10v when it SHOULD be getting 12.8 or so. Was always accurate before.- idi_econoline

Stumped with soft brakes
I tried bleeding my old 89 F250, and never getting it firm. Towed it to a shop, maybe 12 years ago. Just replaced the ABS valve, master cylinder and booster a few weeks ago. Didn't pay attention to the light before start The light wasn't on before; the light (pic of battery and the word "AMP") now comes on and GOES OUT once the engine is started, as if the alternator is charging. Think I'll recheck output at alternator terminal one more time before disassembling...- idi_econoline

Work's been rough this week, so, finally got it all back together, just now. NO CHARGE! Back to Stick Witch's advice: replace the wiring! Tightening alternator and vaccum V belts on 7.3 al
Big wrench doesn't work well on my E-350, for alternator tightening. Body is maybe 2" above the top of the alternator. BUT, the best leverage I've found is the good old factory lug wrench. I put the pry-end on a stud sticking up near the thermostat, and there ya go. Removed and reinstalled...- idi_econoline

The GOOD news is that the alternator plug IS wired per your diagram, Stick Witch. Took your advice, removing the alternator to solenoid wiring. But, wait, WTH is that green wire at the end.... OHHHHH! The green warning light/exciter wire!!!!! AND there's a corresponding plug, with a green...- idi_econoline

BTW, I had to DIG AROUND in the connector to get readings on that yellow/white hole in the connector. Feeling quite confident that the prongs in that part of the connector are broken, meaning no voltage to the regulator....- idi_econoline

OK: alternator ground good. Voltage at alternator output terminal, even revving: 12.51v. Off to get new alternator connector. Remember this, from when I started this thread? My intuitive nature often knows, early on!- idi_econoline

Both yellow/black sensor wire and alt-solenoid wire are good. Bad ground thru mounting bracket not impossible, as both alternators (old and new) have the current issue in situ. Suspecting the prongs in the female pigtail connector. If the alt runs with 0v sensed, though, would it not charge...- idi_econoline

Still no charging. Stays at 12.6 or so, idle and above idle. Considering testing output at alternator output terminal while running. In a van, that would mean a long clip lead or two, with the inner doghouse off. That would indicate if output cable really is bad.- idi_econoline
