How to fix my factory oil pressure gauge or wire in a mechanical one?

Or worse still, if the oil pump pickup tube is cracked. In my case the oil pressure was good with the engine cold. As the oil got warmer and thinner, air started to get sucked into the tube giving lower oil pressure until the pressure dropped to around 5psi gauge. I was fortunate as I had a...

    Turbo info for 6.9 idi

My engine is stock apart from the after market turbo. I usually run around 5psi or 6psi when on the highway (60mph). I can get the turbo to give me 12 psi if I really boot it. I have my fuel pump screw adjusted so that I cannot go much above 12 psi - it seems to work well.

Was told the 6.9 I just bought is toast!

Don't know about electric fan - on my truck the original fan has been more than adequate throughout it's life (I bought the truck in 1986). Re water seperator. To stop leaks (fuel out or air in) just put a tight fitting bolt into the end of the drain hose and use a hose clamp to secure the...

Was told the 6.9 I just bought is toast!

Same truck that I have though mine has a CTS turbo in it. Looks like your body is great shape - I wish mine looked like that. Either way, you will have a good truck by the time you finish the engine work. While I think of it, does it have the factory water separator in it still - it is on the...

    DIY Injection Pump Reseal

I partially re-built a DBG rotary fuel pump - for a four cylinder engine. It is basically the same as the DB2 but with less cylinders (4cyl. v's 8cyl). My pump really only needed a few "O"ring shaft seals and a new set of vanes for the priming pump at the front. On my pump, the vane springs...

    loss of oil pressure

Is your oil line metal (copper) or is it rubber type? Maybe the hose itself is starting to deteriorate inside ? Something is happening and it certainly needs attention. For my oil pressure gauge I tee'd off the outlet where the original sending unit fits at the rear of the passenger side head...

    Looking cavitation in the eye.

With the wet liners there are rubber O-rings that the liners slide in, that seal the liner. When these O-rings get soft the coolant gets by and into the block. Had to rebuild a JD450 engine due to O-ring leaks and liner cavitation - again previous owner abuse ! No wonder I was able to get the...

    winter front

The Fia winter fronts are pretty reasonable and also come with a net for the grill for summer use. I have a Fia winter front on both of my vehicles and they work well. Around $60 ors o as I recall.

    U-haul engines Quick Question

Swap out the injector and then see if it makes a difference - use one from another cylinder. If the injector is the problem, the problem willmove to the other cylinder. Cheap and easy check and won't cost an arm and leg. Next best is to replace the questionable injector with a new one and see...

    Maybe new IP time!!!

As said above, replace the fuel injectors with new BB ones and then run the heck out of the truck. These diesel engines like to work and perform much better when they are made to work properly. Some years ago my engine was running a bit rough leaving a trail of grey/blue smoke that smelt...

Gawd - I wished they would ship to Canada.

    C6 still aint right!!!

You should be able to adjust the modulator. There will be a small screw inside the tube and you adjust it to chnage operation - don't remember which way. It is easy and simple and you really need to try the truck out and adjust accordingly.

Warm start issue with a difference

A long shot, but do you have the old water seperator on the firewall below the brake master cylinder ? It has been the cause of a lot of problems and most owners have either blocked off the drain line (insert bolt and then clamp) or remove the whole selerator.

is it injectors and pump time

Sounds like you have a sticking injector. When one of those starts sticking, the whole engine shakes like blazes - and it can be an intermittent problem. It happened to me after I installed some "reconditioned" injectors. Only new injectors since that day and my truck runs real smooth in...

    Where to go from here.

Just some info on my truck. My turbo is a non-wastegated and I don't as high as exhaust temperatures as you do. What are the temperatures like during the fall and winter ? I have my injectionpump adjusted so the maximum boost I make is 12 lbs. Don't have an intercooler though one would be real...

    c6 question and gauge location '88 E250?

I think the yellow marked nut and screw is the band adjustment. This adjustment is very fine and is around 15 inch lbs (not exactly sure on the value). The adjustment procedure is tighten up snug and then back off 1 1/4 turns then torque nut to the specified torque value. My figures may be way...

    Original Wheel Colors, Bullnose Era

My 86 came with silver (argent ) wheels when new. I still have them and have repainted with same colour from a rattle can. They looked like new after the painting (I think the paint was called "hammered" silver or something similar). To answer your question the wheels were definately silver...

    Help please, lost brakes.

I removed the load adjusting/compensating valve (?) from the rear axle on my truck years ago and the brakes have worked fine since. At least as good as the Ford brakes tend to work. You will be fine to drive without the load compensating valve as Mel said. That $661 can buy you parts for other...

    Introducing MOOSE BOOST!

To me it sounds like Mel has put a lot of thought into this turbo system. It sounds like this turbo will do very well for whoever installs one. Picking faults, making wrong assumptions etc. are not going to help anyone at all. I have a CTS turbo install from 1993 (about 220,000km ago) and it...

I'm starting to think the mechanic botched it up again.

Seeing that you have an NA (naturally asphixiated) engine, you will always have some smoke in the exhaust. At least that was my experience when my truck was new and on through until I had a turbo charger installed at around 80,000 kms. You will always be starved of air to some degree when you...

    Engine Crankshaft Seal Savers ?????

Hi guys, Thanks for the comments. The old truck is working fine apart from the new (last year or so) oil leakage. Until a couple of years ago I doubt if I lost a litre (or quart) over 5,000 miles - usually half of that between oil changes was the norm. Now I get the leaks and loss - not...

    Engine Crankshaft Seal Savers ?????

Hi Guys, I have some oil leaks on my 86 6.9 and would like, if at all possible, to get a couple of years out of the engine before having to replace both crankshaft seals. The engine seals are original and have only started to leak noticeably, a few months ago (six or seven months before...

    6.9 wont crank good batteries

Don't forget to check the ground at the battery - also both battery terminal connections. A dirty or bad ground will do what you describe - as also will loose terminal connections. HTH

    Injector issues

I would vote for the air intrusion in your case. Yesterday I started my 86F250 for the first time in about ten months. It took a little bit of starting (several turnsof the engine) but fired up on the first attempt at starting. Ran it for about 30 mins or so and then shut it down. Went to start...
