May seem obvious but...
The Duramax is a diesel design right from the get-go. Isuzu/GM partnership. The 6.2/6.5 are also diesel designs Detroit Diesel/GM partnership. The 5.7 diesel was the gas-conversion job.- EMD Diesel Power

Yep... Urban mining.... Idiots with sawzalls. zip zip and away they go with the cat.... and you have a big hole in the exhaust system. It was a problem awhile back, but now it seems to have kinda faded out. Not sure on the coasts though.- EMD Diesel Power

engine sleeves
No, The B-series Cummins is a parent-bore engine. No sleeves/liners at all in it. If the bores are damaged, then they can be bored over and the appropriate oversize pistons and rings installed. Also have you noticed if the hubs/drums are getting hot??? Im thinking that the brakes are hanging up and producing the squeek, however the drums/hubs should be on the hot side as well. Cruising rpms
Quick rule of thumb on diesels is that if you can't accelerate in the gear you're in, you're lugging it- drop a gear and kick up the rpms. 1200-1800 is the ideal (economic) cruise range IMHO for the 1st and 2nd Gen. 12-valves. CAT 3116 Anyone ever changed the injector pump?
94 is correct.... I didnt even notice the model year on the truck. all modern day 3116s and 3126s are HUEI injected though, I think that change was in 97 or 98. the 3116 is a GM only engine. CAT got around that by making the 3126 model. (same thing, just a different model number) so...- EMD Diesel Power
