That's why I replaced the VP44.
The Cummins used to have a lift pump on the side of the block.
Dodge dealership decided that the stock pump wasn't crappy enough and decided to put a smaller one in the tank. Then they decided to use some wire twisted and taped together in the engine bay to...
I hear the solenoid clicking.
The old IP didn't click. That's why I originally started replacing it.
I did not order the pump from Pensacola. I ordered it from U-Haul surplus. It may not even be a rebuild, but a New-Old-Stock Ford unit.
Well crap...
When I replaced the Injection pump...
New pump, still shiny with the yellow anti-tamper paint on all the screws. Not sure if it's a reman or New-Old-Stock.
I didn't have to send in a core.
I took off the little cover under the oil fill and removed three bolts. Left the timing gear in place and just matched up the keyway.
I...
Okay... So I've got a 1989 F350 7.3 IDI that won't start.
It's been sitting about two years.
So far, I've replaced:
-The fuel filter (Filled it with Diesel before spinning the new one on.)
-The glow plugs (All eight were shot... No wonder the glow plug controller was clicking all the...
I'm really concentrating on the fuel level sensors and rear ABS sensor... I've got a few wires that aren't connected and all the tail lights work properly, but the fuel gauge doesn't work and the ABS light is on.
Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. Rather than cutting and splicing when I need it disconnected, I'd rather just unplug the individual parts on the engine... But since the whole thing is a melted ball of plastic, I need to figure out what goes where. There are many different colors in there...
My truck is a 1989 F350 with 7.3L IDI, non-turbo...
First things first, there's a large connector on the passenger fenderwell that's a melted ball of junk. I assume that's due to the glow plug harness.
A couple of butt splices gets the glow plugs working on the two thickest wires, but I...
The thing is, anyone can open up a store and sell these. They all get sent back to Bosch for rebuilding. Get whomever has the lowest price and best service.
I got mine from www.dieselautopower.com
I'm kinda having a hard time understanding fuel flow through this pump...
Fuel enters through the center of the unit and then what?
Are there eight individual pistons to shoot high pressure fuel to each of the injector, or is it just a distributor rotor and there's one high pressure pump?
How...
I removed the cover and put +12 volts to both solenoids... (I had to ground the cover.) The small one in the back moves a little. The big one that has the arm on it moves a lot.
Any more help?
I'm getting harassed by the county to move my truck or they'll impound it.
Do I really need to spend on a new injection pump or is there anything I can do quickly to get this thing running?
If I need a new injection pump, can I do the swap in a parking lot with basic hand tools...
Mechanical pump is working. Fuel gets to the filter.
Have no clue how to diagnose the injection pump.
No goo... Just brown dirt; solid particles. Enough to clog it probably.
Most likely knocked into the tank from when I had the pickup assembly off a few months ago.
When I replaced the glow...
First things first, changed the fuel filter. It was nasty.
The Filter that NAPA gave me for a 7.3 Liter was way too big to fit on the mount. I also had to go out and find a new water separator for the bottom of the filter. Find out that someone put a filter mount for an earlier 6.9 Liter engine...
Question:
If at a scrapyard, I come across an IDI with lines... Is there any way to visually tell if the lines are good or not?
Considering many at the scrapyard are missing the isolators.
^
Yeah... I know how painful a slow turning engine can be.
I've owned this IDI for four years now. I had never changed the glow plugs because I was scared of breaking them off in the heads.
Four years of no glow plugs.
Four years of crappy second hand batteries out of scrapped cars. (Not...

I assume Gary is under the name "icanfixall"...
That article has the pump off of the truck to remove the cover.
Can it be done with the pump on the truck?
I'm not trying to replace the pump now because it'll end up being one of those nickel and dime projects where I'll have to do all eight...
I'll try again.
If I need to pop a new Stanadyne DB2 injection pump on this truck, how hard is it to time one?
I put a new Bosch VP44 on my 24 valve Cummins in about 5 or 6 hours and the only timing it needed was to line the keyway on the pump shaft up with the slot in the pump drive gear...

I always get my fuel from a major supplier... Sunoco or Shell or something.
I don't run waste oils or bioDiesel.
I should hope it's not contaminated.
Why do the lines start leaking? If they do leak, can you tighten them down to get them to stop?
Do you need to replace the line and injector at the same time?
I had one start leaking once and it wouldn't stop until I put a new injector in.
1989 7.3L V8 Ford/International IDI Non-Turbo, ZF5 5 speed, 2wd, Ford/Sterling 10.25 Dually Rear... It was my tow rig for my track car.
Long story short, I parked the truck maybe 5 or 6 months (At the most) ago... I put fresh Motorcraft/Beru ZD9 glow plugs in it right before parking. Full...
