    Choppy Idle

I'd start with the simple things. Run some cleaner/conditioner through the injection pump. Start with the easiest and least expensive. Pull the fuel filter, empty it, and fill it with ATF, replace it on the engine. Start the engine and let it run for about a minute, until you hear it change...

    6.9 update .... need pump

A problem you haven't mentioned yet is Canadian Customs. They apparently want half interest in auto parts shipped across the boarder. I've known Canadians, those who live close to the boarder, to get a US mailing address, ship there, and drive down across the boarder to pick up their parts...

6.9 E350 camper down in Cranbrook, BC

I think JesusFreak (I think is was JF above) is thinking along the right line. I'd say the problem is at the fuel selector valve, mounted on the frame rail. It may have an intermittent short (good luck on that), or it is sucking crap from the tanks. In either case it is blocking the fuel...

What is the part I’m missing? Ignition trim?

Rekeying the doors is a definite maybe. I think that depends on the year. Both my '86 and my '92 have separate keys for the doors and the ignition. If I were to have to replace the ignition in either I would not have to rekey the doors. That is to say, each truck requires 2 keys.

7.3 idi fuel filter light but worse

Okay, lets head back to basics and review everything. The symptoms you've described clearly indicate an air intrusion. Air can enter the system without allowing fuel to leak. You've got to start at the beginning of the fuel system and examine everything, all fuel lines for cracks, all...

How best to replace high-pressure power steering hose....?

It seems to me that when I switched over to hydroboost I worked on the ps pump through the wheel well. That presented to easiest and most direct path to where I needed to go. I don't remember any great difficulty.

Bolt down system for truck canopy

That's good work. It should serve you well. However, I have a single reservation. Our truck beds flex quite a bit. Its the way our trucks are made. I've seen one rear corner of my truck rise and fall 7 inches while the other side was stable. The frames are that flexible. This is usually...

    Overdrive

The O/D light never came into play in my case. The light never came on, it never flashed. The transmission did not go into "Limp" mode. It simply failed to re-engage overdrive when asked to do so. I have not checked for transmission error codes. There is no rush to do so. Those codes are...

    Overdrive

Over this past weekend I had to take my truck to my daughter's house. This meant driving over the Santa Cruz Mountains, over Patchen Pass, an elevation of 18xx feet, up and over highway 17. Its an easy enough drive. My truck, however, was running a bit hotter than it used to. It generally...

    STATIC TIMING 7.3

In order to advance the timing the line on the IP should rotate toward the passenger side. The line on the gear cover is stationary.

fuel flow drawing wanted, can't see how return gets in tank?

No. If you're cranking to start do not crack the injectors. That would perhaps let air into the system, right before the cylinder, and certainly allow fuel to escape, lessening the amount of fuel going into the cylinder.

fuel flow drawing wanted, can't see how return gets in tank?

Going strictly from memory, and to reiterate some of what is said above, on my '92 CC dually, the fuel filter feeds the return line near the #1 injector, which in turn flows toward the rear, #1,3,5,7. The IP connects to the return system near injector #2, which again flows toward the rear...

    Pump replacement

I think I have that manual scanned at home, on my desktop system. I'm at my daughter's, though, with no access to the home system. I'll be back there Monday afternoon. Let me know if you'd like me to email a copy to you. If so, send me a PM with your email address.

Hard start after lift pump replacement

It certainly sounds like air intrusion. The affect of that and drain back are about the same--feeding air to the injectors. Try pulling your fuel filter. If it is not full start hunting for answers. Examine each and every joint you touched while replacing the lift pump. Also, charge your...

How to remove rear fuel tank?

He's right, those little plastic clips are easy. They come in a small bubble pack. Ask the counter person for Dorman 800-015. It has several of both sizes.

Replaced ip gear cover hard starts and hazing

If you have faith in your timing unit, and your ability to use it, I'd suggest actually timing the engine. 30° btdc is not a good place to be.

    .30 over or .40 over

If it were my engine I would not go 40 0ver. The cylinder side wall thickness is not sufficient to allow that. You would be making the side walls too thin, too subject to failure. Given a choice I would sleeve it down to standard size. I would consider that a more reliable engine, and...

    DB2 Guide Stud adjustment

If you removed the IP by pulling it from the gear tower you're going to have to replace it, probably lining up the factory timing marks, and then actually time the engine. Timing will require an actual diesel timing meter. Don't try timing by ear. If you removed the IP without detaching it...
