If the bolts that come in the kit have it pre applied, they should work good like they are.

Safe to use synthetic oil during summer?

George, I don't see a problem, lots of big trucks run synthetic year round. Just curious what do you do in fairbanks. Hopefully I'll be headed back up in a couple of weeks.

    Installation question

Wait on someone that has done it to chime in, I don't see why you will need to lift the cab, if you have the clip off.

On the oil drain tube, did you check to see if enough oil would run through it, you may have to punch some holes in the baffle.

    to head stud or not

You just have to remove the plastic housing, then you don't have to hold them in the head, the way I understand it.

Built some new battery cables today

If this is directed at me, I don't have any pics, Ed is on fte as the parts guy, he is with a dealer in washington and has good prices on the net for oem parts. A picture would look like the original cable.

The last time I heard Ed the parts guy had OEM positive cables for something like 93 bucks.

    to head stud or not

Crew dually has done his heads in the truck and uses studs, I belive he has to pull the studs though. If you decide to go with them follow the torque requirements they have.

Strange problem, wants to die on cold idle

Careful with removing the top cover, if installed incorrectly you can have a runaway condition, with no shutoff. Lcam has it right, but I wouldn't use tranny fluid to soak it in, it may cause a hard start after is sits for awhile. I would use a good diesel additive cleaner, diesel kleen, howes...

I need input on what to do next...

Have you done a compression test to see what your working with. Have you cracked the injector lines to find out which cylinder is causing the rough idle.

Troubleshooting from the road - valve/rocker noise - before you lose an engine

Just a suggestion, you might have an oil analasist run on your oil when you change it.

    Hit a Snag

The top two water pump bolts are the ones that can contact the gear.

HELP!- I found out what that noise was...

Yes the slip joint is where they connect and allows for suspension travel. over time the splines wear, you shouldn't have any slack twisting the two and not a lot of play side to side or up and down. I have never seen a napa that can balance a driveshaft. If you were to take it to napa or any...

HELP!- I found out what that noise was...

Check the bearing if it still spins freely you can buy just the rubber and slip it on. I only worry about balancing them really when I have a new one built, and that usually on my trucks. Unless you have damaged your drive shaft or your slipjoint has to much play it should be balanced.

Injectors leaking, which return line kit?

Our local napa here has the orings. The drawer they are in is marked 6.9 and 7.3 so they don't even have to look them up. I needed some in fairbanks last year and none of the parts houses including napa knew anything about them, International had them though for under 3 dollars.

    1988 F350 7.3 Clutch Hard to Depress

Every cracked firewall or cracked bellhousing I have had to repair either didn't completely release or you had to stuff the pedal in the floor before it released.

    strange sound

    Possible valve guide.

    Attention Colorado IDI'ers

I hope it is ok to say this on here. You might also post this on the fte sight, if IIRC there is a member on the idi site from the springs, most if not all should not mind helping someone in the military and they are generally a great bunch of guys over there too.

    quick ?

The D44 is what came stock in regular cab idis for several years, just in ttb form. The one in my 76 held the weight of the idi fine.

    Am I timed correctly

Icanfixall he had the ip gear off and the front cover off and turned the motor over is the way I understand it, he should still be able to get it to tdc and line up the Ip gear and be good to go shouldn't he.
