vt951, I have seen a bunch of diesels over the years that were unresponsive to ether. These were sound engines that just had fuel related issues. I don't like your compression readings on the left bank. Couple that with , lets say , slow cranking speed...... Sometimes it pays to walk away from...
icanfixall,I took a folded piece of emery paper to the timing groove in the dampner and even painted the rest of it to help the mag pickup distinguish it.The inj. line is bare and clean where I hook up the pulse probe. I pushed the mag probe all the way in the cleaned tube on the timing tab. It...
The Ferret arrived yesterday, so I hooked it up and checked my timing where I had left off with the Kent Moore. It was at 9.5 BTDC. The timing lite was consistant this time with the Ferret,so maybe the pulse pickup could be the culprit with the KM. I think I will contact them about repairing it...
After picking up a J33300 on ebay I have decided something must be wrong with it. I have not been able to keep the timing display within 8 degrees and now the RPM reading is jumping between 300 to 2000 while keeping the throttle steady at appox. 2000. Today I tried the luminosity probe method...
Ok.I took a second go at getting the mag. probe more consistant with no success. So switching over to the timing lite method it seems like you aim the lite at the balancer mark. The meter timing reading at this time is at 00. Now you tap the increase rocker on the meter untill the timing marks...
Since this was the first time using this meter I wanted to try both the mag. probe as well as the timing lite method. The mag. probe was not giving a consistant reading. I still was going to try the timing lite even if it did. However, using the lite method you need to aim the lite at the balancer...
I used the mag probe first then switched to my timing lite. The mag probe was a little erratic. Yeah, I was using the line probe. The J 33300 is a nice addition to the tool arsenal.
My Kent Moore J 33300 timing tool finally got here today so i put to good use . Two weeks ago I checked compression and they were all at 430 to 450 psi. S0 today I set the timing at 8.5 BTDC. It was at 4.3 ATDC. What a difference. The plumes of blue smoke are gone. It doesn't look like a Cat...
Update, pulled the trigger on it last nite. Seller found out you can use a timing lite on a non 'A' model. Will use it as soon as it gets here I am sure IP and injectors are next. [Hellow Mel.....]
I am stiil trying to figure this out. You say that you slide the plastic sleeve up to expose the adapter. How dose that work when the fuel return fitting is directly below the line nut? I agree about the line length/ timing issue.
