    what tractor/truck do ya'll prefer

My attitude about it all is any big truck built after 96 is a throwaway. The old metal will keep going as long as there is a good owner and driver to show it some love.

You can't argue with 893ci of mad, bad, Kitty. The only other motor that can out beast that thing is a KTA Cummins (1150ci).

There's the best reason to have a big power truck. It makes life easier, and more fun.

I'd rather have a semi with no front brakes, better than ABS any day, at least with a twin screw.

Going home from work with the empty racks, let's see........... Turned up motor, overdrive main, overdrive aux, hmmmm...... "Man officer, I had no idea that she could go that fast, 105 was it?" "I was hoping for 130 mph!"

That was another good motor, that Cummins N14. Especially the Red Tops. Give me two.

    Thoughts and opinions please

That's a worse case scenario. Most of the time, just like the Fords, after 100k the glowplugs and fuel injection system get tired, and need to be done. Most folks ashcan these engines just because the glowplugs and controller went south.

They are cheap and not hard to change. No worse than a small/big block gasser.

That old girl is just breaking in. I had looked at a 61 KW 924 with a 400 Cummins and twin sticks (6 and 4), PO was still pulling a reefer with it. Something like 4.5 million on the chassis at the time, just updated the motor to something more modern. The only electronic motor I would get...

    Thoughts and opinions please

I'd get it just for the clean body and the cheap price, go through the injection system, and ride her till she dies. But just like anything, check it thoroughly. The 6.2s are not bad engines, just make sure it never got overheated. Do the glowplugs and controller too while your at it. His no...

Ya know, Argve, I have a feeling he never pulled the trigger on a Cummins with those numbers in a pickup. A PSD or Dmax is kinda manageable. I hope the insurance is paid up.

With the combo that I gave you, it's just a matter of turning the controller to a higher setting to get the 500hp. If you know someone with good fab skills, you can make the compound system yourself, elsewise you need to pick it up from one of the vendors. You'll need to budget 5000.00-6000.00...

You're crazy, absolutely nuts........that means you have to do it! Take measurements and go for it. Can't discourage stuff like this, you saw the Loadstar in the other thread. Rather the "Lowstar".

Has anyone else noticed all the new members to the site?

The DT360 and the DT408 share the same stroke (4.68"), but the 408 has a much bigger bore (4.301" vs. 4.01")

ok thinkin of burnin motor oil

What kind of feedback have you gotten from other users with other fuel injection systems? I have read that the Stanadyne pumps are kinda touchy when it comes to excessive heat added to WVO, how about WMO?

You just want attention.LOL Smoke is just wasted fuel, but if you want it to roll coal, the Smarty has 10 settings to it from mileage to full race. So you can play around with it to impress your friends.;Really I don't think you'll have time though, you'll be too busy trying to keep the...

    ok its a werid truck

I had an 86 Magnum hauler that was based on a one ton commercial van chassis, with a 5th wheel. The bed was from a pickup and it had a sleeper. The chassis between the van and the truck are essentially the same. Quigley might be the best source for getting answers about doing 4x4 conversions...

Argve got you in combo wise, and 450hp at the wheels is about 550-600 at the crank. I'll piggy back on him. If you want it to be responsive, and just straight bolt on with low egt's that you can drive everyday with low to no smoke, put a compound twin turbo system on it that utilizes your...

1320Cummins would be a good guy to answer this. Do you want it at the flywheel or at the tire? What have you done already, or is the motor stone stock?

    Performance engine parts

I thought there wasn't a way to shrink the rods. I've been looking at .100" shorter rods or getting pistons that move the pin height up .100". Either way, $$$$$$$$.
