Yep. My engine started doing this at elevation and being weaker when not in the mountains. Noticed it on my fuel pressure gauge I had installed.

Might want to also make sure the diaphragm didn't totally fail in the lift pump if you need to drive the truck any where until you fix it as a crank case full of diesel isn't good for anything.

Electric fuel pump is an awesome upgrade, just saying.

Likely not the problem, but it is still low. As long as the fuel gets there air free it will be pressurized. Case pressure just affects timing , not hot starts. Usually.

There's a write up in the tech articles in this section for an electric lift pump install. There's some info on it in a part of the thread linked in my signature as well.

Also, just so you know: The stanadyne DB2 IP was designed to be able to be used in a gravity-feed system(aka no lift pump at all). So it should start and run just fine on 0 or more PSI.

Different PSI will change timing, so going from a lower PSI pump to a higher one or vice-versa may need some timing adjustment, but the pump will still inject fuel with no input pressure.

My RD2-110 pump did that a couple of times... Apparently, when working on your engine, you should actually put the lift pump back in place if you expect it to do anything(I literally had it hanging on it's rubber hoses at one point. Started the truck up, then noticed that I never installed it..)

I understand your frustration, but Mel's shop is a small, family owned shop, and is closed on the weekends. If you called during the weekend and left a voice mail, I am sure you will get a call back on Monday. In all my interactions with Mel, he is responsive to his customers. Whenever I have called, during business hours, he is more than happy to come to the phone.

As asked before........... The no start issue..... will the issue only happen when the truck has sat for while (hour or so)? Will it start if you immediately try it after shutting it off?

I'm in KY. If you're close, maybe I can help.

Scott is right. Call Mel back.

Yep starts when you drive and stop but won't if it sits for awhile.Have to wait for it to cool down or use water to restart

That ^^^^ has bad IP written all over it.
Yup, exactly.

I *really* want Mel to chime in here, and once the pump has been RMA'd(or at least troubleshot and fixed), I'd like to know exactly how you get hot start issues like that over a short period of time - I thought it was caused by head to rotor wear.
I can't believe it would happen suddenly, unless there's something else going on? (Maby a lack of pressure internally in the pump somewhere?)

I'm really curious, and I think this would be very nice to know for later -- assuming, of course, that the pump was in spec when it left Conestoga(which it probably did).

Suzie generally answers the phone at Conestoga. I do a fair amount of business with them and they always pick up the phone.
