Hello Oil Burners, I have a 1985 4x4 7.3 IDI with a ZF-5, I bought it 2 months ago and the turn signals won't work. The selector Rod coming out of the steering column doesn't lock into place turning left and won't automatically reset when the steering wheel is straight. I bought the part online but I messed up and got one for a Automatic tranny with a tiltable steering wheel, and I have a manual withought tiltable steerbig. Will it still fit?

I just did mine (w/tilt and manual). as far as I can tell on Rock Auto, the trans doesn't matter. But it looks like the tilt column has longer electrical wires. As best as I could find in my factory manual, the non tilt is easier to install because with the tilt column you have to remove the wires from the plug, fish it thru the column then put the wires back in the proper place in the plug. Not to bad as this was my 2nd time replacing it (used a fairly cheap one the first time) and from start to finish, including removing steering wheel, was about 40-45 minutes at an easy pace.

Take a photo of both sides of that plug to match your wire colors when you reinstall in the plug.
The red centers pry out and the wire ends should pull out. sometimes you may have to use a pick to help remove some wires. Same will have to be done plug you are removing unless you just want to cut above plug.
Tie and tape a string about 3' long to the old one before you pull out. This will help when you feed new one back through column (on a tilt anyway). Reinsert each wire in the correct spot and install red center locks (if you cut wires on old plug, should match the new plug wiring).

Get your steering wheel straight before you remove and make a mark on the side of the wheel and column to help match splines. To remove steering wheel w/o puller, back off nut 3/4 way, wedge knees under each side of steering wheel & using hammer, strike column shaft above wheel retainer nut. Usually pops up after a couple of strikes. PB blaster or Kroil will help before doing this. Use some spray grease, etc on bearing under signal switch.

I have to do mine again when parts arrive. Old new parts were cheap junk so out it comes again.

If you check my build thread not too long ago, I did this. I have pics of the connectors for posterity. Can't get to them currently due to Photobucket screwing me.

I'll trade you, I have a new Ford nontilt switch.

Really.
I can't sell it so trading is good for me
