I need the fitting for the new pump, the new one just has a plug. I can't get the old one off the pump. The pump is now off the truck and that's become a Monday Problem. For now, LIBERATION!!

Oh for some reason I was thinking hose clamp. My bad.Clamp down on that sucker just as tight as you can with a pair of vice grips and smack the pliers with a hammer to brake it loose.

Clamp onto the nut where you put your wrench. Not on the tube. You'll crush it if you clamp that of course.Clamp it really, really tight.Make it count.A couple taps and she'll spin right out.

No torch, no vice. Just a Wal-Mart toolkit and an assortment of parts store / harbor freight wrenches.

I have the engine as clean as I can get it. I've got some pitting going on, should I be worried or is all well? I'm about to start cleaning bolts and prep the new pump for installation.

That doesn't look too bad. Just use some rtv and you will be good.

^^^^^ beat me to it. As long as that plate doesn't have any holes in it.

Getting there. Pump is installed, but my ****** torque wrench won't click so i'm just going light on the bolts. The second bottom bolt I need to re-do, I missed the hole and now it's all gummed up, and i'm having muscle cramp issues atm so i'll save that bolt for later.

It's ugly, but it's in there.

Got the torque wrench going. I set it at 140 inch pounds, since I'm still reassembling I went with a lower torque setting to start.

I might have some mixup going on with my bolts, I went clockwise from the top two bolts and the first few bolts I forgot to put them where they belong, so i'm playing guess-the-bolt right now. I think they're all right, except the one bolt directly adjacent to the top two bolts, just to the right. It goes through the pump but it's refusing to thread in to the block by hand. The two remaining bolts on the left iirc are for the bracket.

Gonna pack up and call it a day, i'm running out of daylight. I'll pick it back up tomorrow after work. Still gotta clean and re-do the second bottom bolts too. Slow progress, but this has been pretty educational so far. Real glad I pulled the radiator, the extra space is helping me out a lot.

You can buy a new brass fitting at Home Depot or lowes for the water pump to heater core hose. That's what I did and worked well.
Thanks, I think that's what I'll be doing, my old fitting is pretty badly damaged.

I'm taking today off from working on the truck, by the time I escape from work it'll be close to dark. Tomorrow is a better day.

Achievement unlocked: hang upside down while being impaled by the hood latch and install an RTV'd bolt. I hope there's no such thing as too much RTV :D

Humpty Dumpty is starting to come together again. Water pump is all snugged up, brackets are back on, no extra parts, but I seem to be missing one of the two bolts for my power steering pump. If I can't find it, does anyone know the size / specs of the lower power steering pump bolt? Not the super long one, the one that holds the pump and puts tension on the belt.

As always, pics or nothing happened:

Edit: I robbed a bolt off the AC pump bracketry and it worked. I still need to replace that bolt for the AC pump, it's a 9/16 bolt.

Found another problem, looks like I stripped the threads out of the AC bracket. Woops. Good thing my AC is already broken LOL

Anyone have a special trick to fix this? And if that's not on the table, anyone got a spare bracket for sale? :p

It threads into the steel not the aluminum.
Ahh, ok, so the stripped threads on the bracket are no biggie then? I couldn't get the bolt to go through the rearmost plate, but I think I just never got it lined up correctly. I'll try again the next time I'm out there, I packed up for today and got some other errands done.

I stopped by the hardware store to find parts for the heater hose fitting. I found a 1/2 x 3/8 Hex Bushing along with some threaded 3/8 pipe, it screwed right in to my old water pump so I think I'm good to go. Just to double-check though, are galvanized iron fittings OK to use? My local hardware store didn't these parts in brass, so I just went with what they had. If it has to be brass, let me know and I'll do the 40 mile trip to Home Depot and get the right stuff.

Pics, because without pics everything would be a lie:

If something here is horribly wrong, warn me now. Otherwise, next time I'm out there I'm RTV'ing the $#!* out of both the pipe threads and the fitting and slapping it on there. Then I have to fix that bracket, put the pulley back on, radiator back in, hoses on, and see if she holds water. Almost there!
