Will leaking injector caps prevent the truck from starting? How fast does the engine need to spin to fire off?
I have changed the oil and filter in my newly acquired truck(1990 F250 7.3/E4OD 4wd),changed the fuel filter and filled it with DieselKleen, disconnected the tank to lift pump line, hooked up a fuel line to a can of fresh diesel...truck sat for 17yrs. I know its getting fuel to the injectors because its leaking past the body and caps, so I am assuming that the injector pump is working? I only had a single 750cca battery hooked up(all I had...dont want to go out and spend 300 for batteries for a truck that doesnt run..want to hear it first)
When I hooked up the battery nd turned the key there was a LOT of "CLICKING" under the hood...again Im assuming it was the glow plug relay, then it stopped....Does that mean my glow plugs need replacing?
Sorry for all the dumb questions, just want to get this thing done...very anxious to drive it!
THANK YOU

cranking speed is important. its worth spending the money for good batteries, and you need both.

GP could be bad also.

glow plugs are shot. (or hit with eather with GPC disconnected)
get a return line set, there cheap.
pull another battery out of something else. it needs 2
it should still run with air intrusion and a little bit of crack.

Thanks guys....kinda what I was figuring. Before I drop more coin, I want to hear it run. So I will get some crack in a can, disconnect the GP relay and borrow another battery....If she runs, I'll spend the money.

IT RUNS!!!!! and quite if I do say so myself. A friend of mine came over, brought his batteries and we cranked and cranked, bled all the air out, then I squirted WD40 in the intake and she fired right off!!!! Once it cleared up, it idled very smooth......Looks like i am buying batteries!!! I sent Russ a PM about buying a return line kit. So hopefully I wil be on the road in a week or two!
