I have been experiencing charging issues, would a smaller alternator pully charge better ? I have two alternators as spares and one has a smaller new looking pully would this be benificial as it would spin faster ? As for charging issues I think maybe alternator is just old and maybe lost a diode but not sure

This is kinda like putting used tires on.
They could last 5 miles, or 5k miles.
How do you "know" both are good?
Theoretically the smaller pulley will charge sooner. But it's also smaller, which I assume is lower amperage.

I'm not sure that he was talking about putting these alternators on. I think the pictures were to show the pulley sizes. I hope he puts on the right alternator.

The one with the larger pulley came off my truck a while back because I thought alternator was bad, turned out a wire wa loose on voltage regulator, the one on my truck now is a junkyard one that seemed to work for a while. The smaller pulley one I wouldn't be using but thought maybe I could use the pulley off it to put on the other one if it would do any good ? It was just a idea lol

Ive actually paid for used tires a time or two. Lol

If i had 2 used alternators sitting on a bench and the one in my pickup went out. Id put the next one in line on. As long as the bearings sound good.

I wasn't saying you can't make out okay with used tires.
But you just never know.

the small pulley has narrower belt groves. The low charge at idle is a 1G characteristic, run your used stuff, I guarantee some new parts are crap out of the box.
I have a near new 100 amp 1G you can have for cheap if you like. Came off a motorhome that got wrecked 200 miles after I installed a new alt.
