Can someone help me with the wiring of the alternator to fuse to solenoid? I'm having flickering lights and bursts of high voltage.
Someone before me had set it up and I'm pretty sure this isn't right.

Battery cables off and slowly removing the super heated tape around the fuse.

Does anybody have any advise on this wiring? My girl just snuck up on me and said that I'm going to die. I told her to go fold laundry. She doesn't know about this forum. And is pretty puzzled how I got the truck started. Thank you Oilburners!

Here is are my exact questions
1. Is this the right fuse? The alternator is a 95 amp off of a 97 Exploder.
2. If I physically secure the wires and do the best solder of my life and then figure out a box of some sort. Will this not burn my truck down?

Step 1.

Coax the previous owner out back with cookies/doughnuts/beer/whatever

2. Shoot and bury previous owner

Seriously though, buy a fuse holder and a couple runs of 4ga wiring from the auto parts store. That might fix your problem right there.

I can't right now but I'll try to find you a link to the fuse holder later today.

The way it's set up now is unsafe and a bad hack job.

Edit: At least the fuse appears to be the correct fuse. If you have a pick n pull nearby I think some Chevy S10 pickups had a fuse holder for that in the wiring near the battery somewhere.

I'm about to do my seconds 130A 3G swap tomorrow (first on a diesel). I decided this time to go with a breaker. Soldered my own 1/0 cables up yesterday and here's what I've got (right side to alt, bottom to fender mounted relay).

I now have seen it all, almost. No fuse is better than that mess.
I think it goes without saying you should double check all the wiring.

Its not the glow plugs kicking in and out is it?

They will flicker some lights until it gets warmed up a bit

Here's the fuse holder I mentioned. If you go to a junkyard it's located under the battery tray on Chevy S10 Blazers and their GMC counterparts. I believe it was approximately a 96 model I took this one from. Three 1/2 bolts hold the battery tray in and a flat screwdriver will loose the tab so you can release the holder.

If you're really cheap, you can get the power lead from a 97-?? F150. I got the wiring, fuse holder, and a new dome light from a Taurus all for $6

That shifter knob looks uncomfortable

It is haha it's on my list of things to change! It was in the truck when I bought it. I told my wife I was going to change it and she said "but I like it" I said yes but YOU don't drive it! It's not too bad. I'm hoping I'll find a whole shifter with an OE knob to just swap out since they are a friction fit on the splines and not screwed on.
