I was told when I went from dmf to SMF it would be a bit more noisey but I'm getting some grinding noise and it doesn't sound right to me. Is this just SMF noise or is something going wrong.

Push in on the clutch with the engine running making the noise. If the noise quits, then more than likely the noise is the engine pounding the transmission gears through the new SMF.

Must have been a reason why the factory went to all that trouble and expense to install the DMF. Can you imagine how many of these trucks they would have sold if they made that noise on the dealers lot brand new?

That doesn't just point at SMF over DMF.
DMF are mostly junk. I could count on one hand the people that like them.

Is this first run after SMF install?
Do you have the flywheel dust cover installed? Many have had to modify it.

Been driving the truck now for over a week. The cover is on I didn't see any clearance issues could I be hitting it?.

It could.
I seem to recall that being a theme when doing the swap.
Easy to remove it to see if the sound goes away.

I'll have to look, I just remember nothing being in the way when I put it all back together. I'll have to remove that pipe tho to take my cover off.

My single mass make a bit of noise, I guess you could describe it as a grinding noise in a way but more like a loud vibrating noise. Goes away when on the throttle and decelerating but when cruising with light load on it it gets kinda louder?

Same with mine, goes away with throttle. I guess I'm use to noises like these being very bad. In

Some have had luck over filling the transmission and getting it to quiet some. I put two extra quarts of synthetic atf and changed my idle to 700 instead of 650 and my noise basically vanished.

I put an extra quart in mine it did calm it down some, the noise at idle basically went away after new pump/injectors. My new pump idle is like 750-800 rpms, my tach is a little funky though so who knows lol sometimes it gets a noise to it I just idle it up for a second and it clears up usually only when it's cold though

I'm only getting noise when moving at low speeds. Something like 15 and Bellow when not giving throttle. Tommarow I'm going to check for clearance on the fly wheel and cover, don't think it's hitting but will check.
