Ah. So not hood mounted but over the engine. Interesting. I'll be interested to see how that works out. Gonna need a big hood scoop to cool it.

Edit: I haven't seen the moose boost plumbing yet but that turbo is large. Plan on sliding that sucker forward a bit.

it will be a new thing for me too. I was going to solid mount it to the hood but I didn't know what to use for pipe that could move that much.

as of now it will be mounted on the engine with quick connects so it can be moved easily.

yes, there will be a large scoop of some kind. I just hope it can grab enough air.

Looks like you already have it covered.
But have you seen the loadall systems?

I got some head way in the last few days. the turbo and pipes are out, most of the wires are unplugged and off to the side. I just have to pull the rad and lower hoses and the motor can come out.

I also decided to dig into the coolant filter. well, it had a lot of stuff in it.

I rinsed the filter media in water and then strained it. I had a lot of silicone and grit of some kind.

Poor rtv use. I would inspect the oil cooler.
Many say there's no way that casting sand would still be in the engine. I don't believe that.

I absolutely agree......

The 6.0's are known to have casting sand in them.... One of the things that contribute to the oil cooler plugging and EGR Cooler failure.... (Yes the oil cooler plugging is what causes the EGR Cooler failures, or one main contributing cause) The 6.9/7.3 IDI's were made in the exact same plant on Brookville Road here in Indianapolis.

Also, the 3.0L V-6 in the Taurus, Sable, Continental and other mid sized vehicles, definitely has casting sand in them from the foundry...... It is a common problem in the 3.0's the casting sand will abrade the fins off the water pump......... It will move enough water to keep the engine cool, but the first indication you have this issue, is at highway speeds, in the cold, you have no heat. Running in town, it will.....

I was going to do a compression test before I pull the motor out. the motor has no wiring on it so I am going to use a switch to engage the starter.

should I leave the IP on for the compression test or take it off along with the gear? the timing cover will be removed latter so I will be able to align the marks on the gear.

also what numbers should I be looking for on the compression?

Should be like 350-400 for a healthy engine I believe. Under 300 she's tired and as Dave said, should be pretty even ideally.

Don't have to remove IP. Just make sure the fuel shutoff is dead and that you roll it over with the gps out to clear any fuel. Test with gps out and battery charger so she spins over easy.

I waved a magnet over the debris from the coolant filter, you can see what is stuck to the magnet and what is just dirt or sand left in the container.

I pulled the radiator out and noticed some oily spots on the fins that have collected dirt. could this be from the condenser weeping oil? I replaced it a few years ago but maybe I need a better one. any other ideas?
