I have a 85 4wd manual transmission which I like with rough body I also have a 84 super clean 2wd automatic is it best to swap cab and body or swap 4wd parts and transmission to the 2wd ????

A 2005+ dana 60 slings right under. I seent it on a bronco. Might as well try to nab a 2005+ sterling 10.5 from an f350 too. 37 spline axles.

I think sky's off road has a coil to leaf kit intended for the obs d60 and another for the super duty leaf sprung d60.

Imo, a solid axle is the best 4wd option, i really appreciate the "twin" i beam setup.

Throw a d60 and 4wd trans under your clean 84. Way easier

I would say put the 2wd body onto the 4wd chassis. you already know the 4wd driveline, body is a bolt on. just swap in your manual pedals and the doghouse.

I would base it on what tools and skills you have. If you have the stuff to lift a cab and move it and no fab skills than swap the body. If you have fab skills and no way to deal with a truck cab than swap the 4x4 stuff. Personally I'd rather do a 4x4 conversion as I find that kind of work easier.

Another thought - some of the interior has to come out to swap a cab. From my experience it never goes off without breaking some tab or other on the plastic crap. Plastic crap that you cannot replace easily. Cab swaps also mess with the wiring and brake lines and in general violate more systems than a 4x4 conversion. Last - if the 4x4 cab is rotted it's a good bet the frame isn't much better while the nice truck will likely be nice all over.

In general I'd rather do mechanical work than body work. Give me a nice truck with a blown motor or trans over a rustbucket any day!

If the underneath is good, I'd do the cab swap. It sounds to me that you like the manual transmission. You'd still have to swap over all of the extra parts too.
