doing an oil cooler in the truck isn't bad, I can have it done inside an hour from tear down to start up.
this is with removing nothing more than the cross over exhaust, exhaust manifold, and oil filter.
also includes draining the cooler of coolant.
scraping then gaskets I find is easier to do from under the truck.
a nice single edge razor blade and it only takes a few minutes.

this is with another cooler cleaned and new O-rings, ready to install

I didnt and it is now leaking till it gets warm.

If it only leaks until it gets warm, just plug it in every day, or don't ever shut it off ;Poke

Don't feel too bad Russ: last snowmobile trip I said I will be on the road by 2 pm, no matter what. Guess what I left on the dining room table? Iphone charging cord. Stopped at the truckstop, bought a really sweet 15 footer for 25 bucks, and as an added bonus: the oversized/heavy duty strain relief on the phone end won't fit my wife's phone unless you take the cover off, which Otterbox makes really hard because you should almost never do it.

As Forest Gump said: Sometimes there's just not enough rocks.

I own the same cord... take a file to the thick plastic on the plug. Doesn't take much to make it fit the otter box hole

delete the otter box, the new mil spec lifeproof case is the way to go!
still waterproof,and dust proof.
not as bulky as the otter boxes,
all headphone and chargers fit this box.

I put my phone through the ringer, and the only time ive ever cracked a screen is when I ran over it in my 01F250

I like the life proof over otter also.
But they only make the otter for my phone.
Don't ever get the galaxy edge. Lol I'm going back to the active.

I've read that my 83 has 6 o-rings vs 4
'83 and early '84 trucks have the 6 O-ring oil coolers, and unless someone found an alternate source, the inner 4 O-rings are no longer available. Again, someone may have found a source, but I would suggest keeping your eyes out for a 4 O-ring oil cooler.

Interesting side-note...when IH updated the design, Ford didn't bother to update their shop manuals to reflect the change. So, even for later years, the oil cooler diagrams in the Ford shop manuals show the 6 O-ring oil cooler, and the instructions to disassemble and re-assemble are for the 6 O-ring cooler...which, I'm convinced, is why people often cut an O-ring in the install process if they follow the shop manual.

Interesting to know, when it's time to rebuild it I'll have to source a newer version oil cooler, or bring it in with the old O-ring dimensions or part #'s to a Cat dealer and maybe they could cross reference them.
