Today I "towed" my 2001 Duramax to a shop because its having all kinds of issues (hit by lightning.) My new to me IDI pulled the 12,000lbs with ease, temps and boost were great.

Couple of pics for ya.

Old trusty rusty comes thru again as always.. Glad you made the haul safely with no issues. towing like this will get you a huge fine out here.

Not sure of the towing laws around here but we were in a rural area of MS, going about 25-30mph about a 35 mile trip. Can't believe that tow strap held up.

Curious, did you remove the driveshaft on the durimax?
Yes, my dad made me... haha, what does removing it do compared to just pulling in neutral?

After doing a quick google search I found out why, we have pulled my dads f250 before but only for about 15-20 miles with drive shaft in, tranny still is fine, about how far is too far with driveshaft in?

Good deal! Lol
It spins the transmission with no oil pressure if its an auto.

that might be a problem.

Ive never heard of anyone having a problem, but every one pulls it off if there going very far.
We go 5-10 miles all the time with it in.

Even the zf5 or 4x4 because the tcase, your supposed to unhook the driveshaft or pull the axle shafts.

Can't say how far is too far.

Far as I know, it's technically illegal in all 50 states to tow via chain/strap.

Guess it's a good think we were back roads, even if a cop did see us I don't think it would have been a problem due to location. Most roads we were on were 35-45mph speed limits, we where going 20-25, not much traffic either on a Sunday.

Gotcha, after reading up, the Allison seems to be the most meticulous.
