Hey all so I just bought a 93 f250 7.3l turbo diesel
It was running fine than all of a sudden it will not go into reverse or neutral but will go into drive
Could this be a linkage issue or is it something internally?

Try in the IDI section, more people over there and that's what your truck is if it's 93...

On that note, will your lever physically not go above Drive or when you select the gear the truck won't move?

Turn the key on but just don't start it, place it into drive, then crawl under and check the MLPS (Manual Lever Position Sensor) on the drivers side. You can have someone shift it while your under there, see if it moves, or maybe the connector came unpluged. At least start there.

If this is an E4OD, couldn't the filter have dropped into the pan? I thought reverse not engaging was a well known symptom of that.

That said, I had a 4L60E with a similar issue, and it was definitely internal damage. Had completely lost reverse. Had to be sure to park uphill if I couldn't pull through :p

If there is no bind up it could be a dropped filter. From the OP post there is binding. That would be a sign of internal damage. Without opening it up, its hard to say what smoked internally.

Ok so I put a new transmission on my 1993 f250 7.3 idc and it's now moving forwards and reverse but it won't get out of 1st gear (2nd transmission btw) same thing happens to the first one
I did some research and it's saying the torque converter circuit could be bad.
Does anyone know where this circuit would be located?

It should be part of the harness that plugs into the side of the transmission, and goes to computer on the driver's side of the firewall. The manual would have the diagram of what pins connect directly to what, could test the wiring for continuity.

I would check all the sensors first, TPS, relays and such. im not a transmission expert but I wouldn't think the torque converter would have anything to do with shifting.

It's basically in limp mode
How would I check the harness for continuity
