This has gone from bad to worse. I lost a glow plug on Friday, so I replaced it on Saturday morning. Unfortunately, when I went to check the GP on cyl 1, I snagged the return line and snapped the barb off the injector cap. Had a Christmas dinner with the family yesterday, followed by an unexpected trip to the hospital to see my dad (repeated heart issues) so I didn't get a chance to do much with it yesterday. Went into town to day and picked up an injector installation kit from O'Reillys since they were the only ones to have them in stock. Started working on it this afternoon in the freezing rain, unscrewed the #1 injector line, and then unscrewed that short nipple piece that goes in between the line and the injector. It slipped out of my fingers and landed on the valve cover. I had to re-position myself to get it, and when I turned my head, I heard it roll somewhere, but never heard the thud of it actually landing. Have no idea where it went.

So, my question is, what is it called, and where can I get another one???

That's called a Timing adapter. You can't buy them new. I am sure someone here can send you one

The threads got messed up on my adapter. I just bent the line down and put it directly on the injector. Everyone says this is a bad thing, that it makes it too short and will unbalance the length of the line. I believe them, but for the life of me I cannot hear it in the engine. No lope, no skip, it hammers away steady as always.

I would try sliding one of the magnet-on-a-wire things under your intake manifold. Everything I drop ends up down there.

I thought about that. I don't have one flexible enough to fish down between the intake and the pump. I did something similar with a clothes hanger though, and still no joy. I did drag some old leaves out though :)

When I dropped it, it landed on the valve cover and stayed there. I mistakingly thought it would stay while I shifted positions so that I could pick it up. When I looked away, I heard it fall. Sounded like it didn't roll/fall far, but it was windy and spitting rain/ice so who knows. The angel of the valve cover would cause it to want to roll under the fuel filter and off towards the finder. Who knows. I finally gave up and bent the line down and connected it straight to the injector. Back to running again.

For what it's worth, Autozone and Advance Auto still sell this part. Not sure about NAPA, but Oreilly's doesn't show it. They call it a Fuel Injector Timing Sensor, and they sell it for $150 which is half of what the dealership was willing to sell it to me for ($300).

Thanks! I think I've located one from another member, along with a couple of lines that need replaced. If that falls through, I'll give you a shout.

It probably rolled off the valve cover and then wedged itself under the motor mount somewhere. A few nooks and crannies under there.

Yes, that's what I'm thinking. Now it's probably laying on the side of the road somewhere along my route to and from work. :)

Check on the valley pan up top. I lost a socket there one time and didn't find it until I pulled the motor later. Bend a piece of wire and slide it around under the IP.
