Recently experiencing a problem with fuel delivery. The engine surges (I assume it's air mixed with the fuel) when I'm accelerating hard or climbing steep hills. Only occurs when FSV switch is on the front tank. Seems odd in that the problem instantly goes away if I switch to rear tank??? I assumed the surging would continue until all of the air was purged from the lines and filter but it immediately stops after flipping the switch to rear tank. Anxious to hear any related experiences with similar symptoms. Maybe time for a new FSV?

Maybe you have a blockage in the line from the front tank? Did you do new lines and senders when you redid the truck?

My guess is when the tank switching valve tries to change tanks it can't because there is some broken shower head in the valve. Search for the post that shows how to remove the blockage and it even tells you the correct size self tapping screws needed to put it back together. You just drill our the rivets to open the valve. Its a lot simpler than all this once its out and on the work table. The lines are going to have fuel in them so be aware of this. I used small C clamps and some small vice grips to close off the lines so diesel did not run down my arm into my arm pit... That really burns the pits too...

I re-used existing fuel lines from tanks to FSV and return. The only line replaced was from Holly Red pump to filter head. Pump is frame mounted just in front of FSV. Both tanks were replaced with new plastic, and both senders and pick-ups were replaced with modified gaser units (minus the in-tank electric pumps). Trash collected in the FSV is certainly a possibility and logical starting point. Thanks for the help guys!
