Quick question. Where does the heat from the Turbo come from? 90some% from the exhaust gases? In that case couldn't a person turn down the housings and add ceramic spacers to divorce the three castings from each other thermally?
Ok, so three quick questions.
I will be buying a turbo-ed...
Great answer BDCarrillo, I can easily understand that. I had no idea turbos upped the heat values that much. It makes a lot of sense that the evaporation cooler would be of fairly limited use. How does water and/or menthol injection effect longevity of the engine?
I am not so sure the hose...
Did they make the F450 in 4x4 back in the day(when they made trucks... pre 1994.5)?
Can I gear the axles down low enough to "hypermile"(funny idea in an RV)?
I know very little of the larger Fords.
I see they have some new models that are 4x4, but I know nothing of their reliability. If it...
Good golly. There are so many great responses I don't know where to start. THANK YOU ALL!
David85, so far I have planned to use my 1992 4x4 ford diesel for a frame. But that would leave me with the TTB. Though I can likely get better fuel ecconomy with the lower stance, and a much more...
***This quote has been edited for pleasantness***
I am likely opening a can of worms here... But I have read this multiple times. and I see you offer no real information to back your argument.
Though it did challenge me to "google it", err... I checked engineering toolbox...
Stealth, your strategy is exactly what I am aiming at. An optimum build for durability and reliability, power is more or less an afterthought. The IDI seems to have all the power anyone needs, assuming they are not in a rush. Me saying I want a large turbo was a miswording. More so, the biggest...
The first gen 12v Cummins was full mechanical and I had read it had fewer parts. I had researched the use of WVO and designed a few filter systems. But I have heard so many stories of bad endings. Not to mention every bad OM617 Mercedes I have seen were converted. Do people have any issues with...
A built Cummins 6bt will likely be an option for the power plant too. I just have not spent enough time reading about it to know if I can get the fuel economy out of it I would like.
There will be an inter cooler with evaporative cooling system for the really bad times. And a pulse turbo...
Thank you all for your replies.
I see I do need to add some information to the post.
The RV is going to be used as my primary residence as I travel cross country and gather information on historic rockhounding sites and mines.
It will need to be 4x4. And fuel economy is a priority...
Thank you for the reply IDIoit. You caught yet another piece of poor grammar. I am good for them. Truth be told I haven't had a machine on my hand in awhile. But I have made the mistake. Luckily it was under a ton and didn't make it all the way to the floor.
I am definitely one of the "little...
By and by, I have small but vary accurate machine tools(lathe, mill, surface grinder, also tools for port and polish and valve jobs). I also have access to large, and vary large, machine tools at friends shops.
So much of what can be done by me, will be done by me.
I can fabricate most...
I am planning on a full custom RV build. Custom motor, gearing, body, and interior. And I am not afraid of spending real money on the project.
Actually I am planning to sell my house to sure up the budget.
I have done a great deal of reading. And originally I was planning on a 4bt build...
