wondering if the thread sizes for the inlet and return of the injection pump are a known/common size or if i need adapters specific to the pump. trying to get stuff together in short notice to get a parts motor running if at all possible
fan clutch and thermostat are both motorcraft but theyre like OE aged. Ive been too paranoid about moving the thermostat housing and having it leak (again) to change the thermostat from the temporary i threw in. But i also know my original radiator is like a 3rd plugged up and needs to be...
fiddled with the pumps timing and lined the marks all the way up true this time, the only benefit to leaving it there is its easier to start cold again and its quieter. EGTs went up 300-400 degrees across the board and i lost power. But im sure some of my problems come from whatever that timing...
if it hard starts in the morning but starts fine afterwards youve likely got the same issues i have of air intrusion, o rings inside the umbrellas atop the injectors for the return lines as well as the return lines themselves are highly suspect if theyve been as much as looked at sideways, same...
that 7.3 has sat uncovered in weather for about 8 years so far so definitely gonna take some work to bring back, same with any motor around his yard though.
I'm honestly a little pump poor with how many IDI projects I'm running myself into, trying to focus on making the one in the road legal...
ive got the sensor housing, as well as a sensor with the wires cut off flush on the sensor.... oh well it makes a good plug until i get the tach and sensor, and wire it back in. Half this trucks wiring is custom now anyways
Will the 35 x 100 RPM tach from the big trucks work in our pickups on the stock sender? if they do, where is the factory wiring usually ran from and were there trucks that didnt have said wiring? ...im concerned that in my attempt to fix the rats nest of wiring ive snipped and removed the tach wires
The advances condition is poor at best. Wouldnt surprise me that much if it was seized up. Something ive been working on modifying/repairing on a future pump, but also with the condition of this motor it may not happen till the next motors in it
I do have the bigger outlet housing and downpipe, retarding the timing results in better power, but significantly higher egts, ie cant cruise above 55 unloaded hot
I dont mind crazy, long as its cheap (doing it myself over paying someone else)
On the side note of crazy im looking for a way to make the hole the fuel plungers sit in bigger so I can cut down and reuse a pair of cam rollers as larger plungers for more fuel, seriously doubt a simple drill bits...
(If its got one) the gear reduction could be gummed up causing drag, in addition to bum bearings and brushes, but unfortunately another common issue is cooked windings causing resistance = slow cranking
I can heat it right up to 1300+ if i leave my foot in it, but i only have so many more idis laying around
Oh the plungers are different even in the 7.3 NA? that gives me an idea for the next budget pump at least. And yeah i agree that 7/16 head bolts are laughable on the 6.9.
Some backstory on...
