I owned a Chevy Suburban with a 454. My V10 is in a 2001 Excursion that tips the scales at 7,400 lbs. empty... I agree with the above. I drive it because I have three little ones and safety more important than mileage to me when it comes to my family.- k_williams1982

Use the Iridium spark plugs and pay close attention to the torque. The plugs are a 100,000 mile plug, so no need to even touch them again for a long time. I have a K&N air filter installed on my V10. The "Y" pipe is restrictive, so change that out if possible. A tune up and fuel filter are...- k_williams1982

2000 excursion 6.8 V10
I paid the extra and used Iridium plugs (100,000 mile warranty). Be VERY careful with the torque of the plugs... TOO LOOSE will rattle the plug out and TOO TIGHT will strip the threads of the head. UPDATE ON TUNE-UP... Changed the plugs and boots during my last trip to Bend. Completed the tune-up there and drove it back here with no issues. So far, I have about 1,200 miles on it after the tune up and everything is going good (still has all 10 plugs in it... LOL). The plugs I removed...- k_williams1982

I had a 1990 F150 4x4 with a 5 speed. Great truck and I actually used it to haul my first IDI home on a trailer with my "300-6". I heard the same thing about it originally being designed as a diesel engine... :dunno- k_williams1982

Removing wing window, frame and all???
I believe I have a set of wing windows. I have to get up to Bend to pick up the load of parts that I've been trying to get down here to CA, but haven't had the time to make the trip. I'm hoping to go out there this weekend since I have a three day weekend.- k_williams1982

I was unemployed in Bend and moved here to California for work. I had the CC setup nicely for OR, but with the lower gears and a C6 it was not the best combination for the CA highways. I thought about swapping a ZF in it to keep the truck, but funds and time didn't permit it so I had to sell...- k_williams1982

DOESN'T REALLY HELP AS FOR IDI VS. PSD, BUT MY THOUGHTS ON THE IDI POWERED TRUCKS... I just recently sold my IDI and bought a '01 Excursion (with the V10 gasser). 1985 F350 Crew Cab 4x4 7.3 Diesel
If I had the extra cash I'd buy it. How many miles are on the engine and how long ago was the 7.3L dropped into it? As for the axle, what's the manufacture date of the truck? Any month after mid year in '85 should have a D60 in the front. I miss mine and I've been looking for another one...- k_williams1982

broke the return barb off my fuel tank selector valve...
I believe I have a fuel selector valve in my spare parts if you still need one. It came off of a '85, but it should still work on yours.- k_williams1982
