    86 bed bolts

I pulled the bed off my 86 long bed to work on the fuel tanks. In all the discussions concerning bed bolts I understand they have a long square shank. The two middle bolts are like that but the two front and rear have a long double d shank. It's not a mismatch that is what the holes in the bed...

    86 6.9l water pump

well i got the timing cover repaired and gaskets should be here today. many times these large thin gaskets are difficult to keep positioned during assembly. i've read that some use a thin layer of rtv, a thin layer of lithium grease, and just oil. maybe there's no wrong solution if it works.

    86 6.9l water pump

the two bottom welded nuts on the timing cover are stripped. if i use helicoils to repair these i'm thinking i should use locktite to make sure they stay in place. and then use a sealer on the bolts.

    86 6.9l water pump

i got everything stripped and ready to pull the timing cover. i now see that the timing cover is tucked in under the ip gear cover. i'm guessing that has to be at least loosened to get the timing cover off. am i on the right track?

    86 6.9l water pump

things did not go as well as i would have hoped. the two bottom bolts that i believe are threaded inserts in the timing cover were bad. both were barely snug when i took them out. when i put them back one snugged up and one was almost no resistance. i drove the truck a few times and had no leaks...

    86 6.9l water pump

that Flowkooler pump looks great but i have already bought one. my fan clutch came off pretty easy. a big adjustable wrench and a few wraps with a hammer and it broke loose. two issues i've not seen discussed is getting the old gasket off and weather or not to use sealer. the old gasket had...

    86 6.9l water pump

my water pump is leaking so i thought i'd ask for input from y'all while i wait for it. it looks like getting the fan clutch off without special tools may be a pain. and what about antifreeze? is cavitation a problem on these 6.9l's?
